Hi. My wife took the Q for a spin a couple of days ago while I was away and says there was water leaking from the dome light in front of the sunroof, driver's side.

The sunroof was closed, of course, but I did notice the the windshield moulding on the driver's side needs replacing. Could they be related even though they aren't really that close to each other?

Thanks!

Jim

There are drians up there, that when plugged cause these symptoms.

Thanks Fred. Sorry to be such a pain.

You mean there are drains up in the roof? How would I get at them? And does this mean that moulding isn't the problem - but what problems could that moulding cause?

Thanks!

Jim

The drains are in the sunroof channel, visible with the sunroof open. The windshield is glued in, so the condition of the molding has nothing to do with leaks.

the sunroof drains are long black hoses that run to the underside of the car. There are two at the front and i believe two at the back. those drains are to port away water that gets in even while the sunroof is closed.

The Inside Diameter (ID) of these hoses isn't real big and the surface isn't supper slippery. Both of which conspire to make the drain lines suseptible to pluging just like a downspout on your house. They get plugged from debris like tiny bits of leaves, dirt, or even green scum that will grow in there if it stays wet long enough.

Try a bit of low pressure compressed air to blow them out (anyone feel free to jump in here if this method isn't the best)

Is this a recurring problem?

The same thing happened to me about a year ago after I took the car through a car wash. It did it immediately following the wash as I was driving but then went away. Haven't had that happen to me since, even when I wash the car.

I've always cleaned mine out with compressed air, some people use coathangers, but I'd be afraid to cut the hose.

Gentle air pressure should do the trick!
