Ok this is weird and I can't think of a good explanation. I just drained my oil and there is no water in it. It looks fine. I also drained the catch can and it looks like $hit. I'm thinking some sort of condensation was going on inside the can itself in the cold weather to accumulate all of that water in there.

I have a picture of what I drained out of the catch can, and you would see why I had a heart attack this afternoon if I could attach a pic to this reply. I'll see what I can do tomorrow.

So, a catch can is a "Good Idea"? Interesting... I will keep that in mind. Glad to hear you did not have any water in the oil. BTW, how much oil did you drain / how many quarts does it take to fill your 25?

how much water was in the cathc can? i had less than a cup in my oil after 500 miles when i first got my swap up and running, and milk on the oilcap, started freakin out , did a leak test. not a damn thing wrong. but that was the ONLY time it ever did it , and im on my 5th oil change, with no signs of water whatsoever.im thinking condensation in the head...try driving it for a few hundred miles and do another oil change... or maybe someone has a better idea than mine...

damn sounds like a close call! I saw this thread and was thinking... NO not again! lol I am def planning on running a catch can, for a ton of reasons, and monitoring the oil kicked out is one of them.

I'm sure those of you that have followed my head gasket debacle must know how big of a heart attack I had after seeing that much water in the catch can.

I assume that if the can wasn't on, that the vapor would have just been burned in the motor and spit out the exhaust. But since the catch can is there and the breather filter can allow ambient air into it (moisture and all) after the motor is turned off, there is a real possibility for the catch can to act as an air dryer.

I finally got a photobucket account so I could post this pic. So check this out. (oil on top and water on the bottom)

Condensation, most likely. It's almost certainly not something you need to worry about. Blowby products (the filthy vapor in your crankcase) cool as they go through the catch can and associated tubing. As the temperature drops, water vapor condenses. This can cause a surprising amount of water to accumulate in the can. mine looks like that from the can.
