well, my brake fluid is leaking where the master brake cylinder and the brake booster meet. Is there like a gasket or a seal in between? I have an old q45 master brake cylinder... is it a good idea to replace the old mbc with it when I do my brakes?

any suggestions woudl be great

oh and the dripping brake fluid is eating the paint in the engine bay.

time for a new master. All that's between the master and the booster is the booster's rod that pushes in on the piston in the master.

so this will work right..? that's from a q45, I plan to replace it with that

woudl it be a silly idea to upgrade to a dot4 fluid while I am at it? is that recommended?

sure why not. Although you don't really need to replace the master if you're switching to the q45. Personally I'd just stick with the 240 mbc but get a new one so it'll reduce your chances of having to change your brake fluid for a while.
