i noticed that after i put my bov on (figured out it leaked after about a day) the ca started to get hot.. my temp gauge would hit the H and come back down and go back up.. we drained the coolant system because we thought air was in it.. still did it. took the bov off, and put stock piping back on.. doesnt heat up. whats the bov have to do with engine heat?

Maybe because it is running rich with the BOV? I dunno.

if its running rich, it'll run colder won't it?

I have no idea how a BOV would cause any difference whatsoever on engine temps though. Personally I think you've got another problem and it just happens to have matched adding and removing the bov. It just doesn't make sense why a bov would make your car overheat.

You BOV didn't cause your engine to run hot. Hell, your engine may not be as hot as you think. Your temperature sending unit is probable out of calibration and is giving you some wacky readings, so change it. You're not the 1st and you won't be the last.

very good point. thats an easy piece to find in the junkyard, or they're relatively cheap from an auto parts store... check to see if yours is all covered in corrosion. Also check the larger (red) engine temp sensor right beside it and replace them both while you're in there

Just get an aftermarket gauge. My stock one reads 3/4 between H and C and my aftermarket one reads ~125-130 F.
