93 240 coupe

Hey ya'll. Been running the heater on my car for the past couple of days, and this morning i noticed a pretty large spot on my driveway. Pop the hood and the AF overfill is empty. I obiosly have a leak... and am unable to place it ... any place specifically I should look? What about using the heater would cause this? Thanks for reading and any help is greatly appreciated.

is your radiator drained of coolant or is it full still? If it's full, I'd check the reservoir for leaks. If it's not leaking, then check the cap. If that too is not leaking, You can then get a kit to test your coolant system. It'll basically pressurize your coolant system without it being on and you can look for the leaks there. If it's coming from your engine bay, you can usually have a look at your engine pan to give you at least a ballpark idea of where it's coming from. Then start to have a look around that general area for leaks. The usual suspects would be a cracked radiator, old radiator hoses, radiator hoses not on tightly enough, perhaps a leak in your heater hoses, bad radiator cap, and your waterpump. Have a look at those and see what you can find.

If you sprung the leak while using the heater then you need to check your heater core thats located behind the dash on the passanger side. They have been known to leak coolant.

Especially if you can't find the leak in the engine bay.

Follow the leak from the bootom up. Park in a different place. Run the car. Look to see where the water drops. The leak will be in the vicinity of somewhere straight up from there. Look for a water hose of some sort. They are usually a weakpoint. If it's towards the front of the motor, check the radiator and water pump as well.

check the hoses that go to the heatercore. they are on the pass. side on the firewall. Mine were leaking a little bit a few days ago.

Sounds like possibly a lower radiator hose to me.

hey guys... i just popped my hood and found that the stain is towards the front of my engine, right in the middle. Any hoses go there that could leak, or is the a Water pump problem? I'm gonna do a search to find where the water pump is exactly (i don't have a Chiltoms or fsm with me right now)

Thanks a million !!!!!

fill it up with water (what youve lost) turn it on, let it heat up, and lay by the front so that you can see where its coming from. the heat will pressureize the car and make it drip/pool faster etc. thats the quickest way to check, and definately the cheapest.

buy a FSM, for twice the price of a chiltons you have the same manual the nissan mechanics use.Water pump is $70 with gasket and sealant, but that is something that needs replaced anyways, if it's that you're laughing, way better than a blown HG or leaking radiator. If thats it, you should replace the thermostat and radiator cap while you'll have the coolant drained, then do a drain and refill with a cleaner then refill and PROPERLY bleed the system. Properly is bolded because many people do not do this right, and will cause you problems.

Yeah water pumps are easy to fix... just let the liquid seal sit for a while before you go starting up the engine.

There's more than one way to bleed the coolant system, I never once used the burp hole while I was a tech at Mazda and never had a car come back or overheat.
