Where abouts is the rear strut leaking? You will have fun trying to find a replacement in australia. Im pretty sure you can still get them through nissan, but prepare to pay over $2000aud per strut. You might be able to find one off a wreck but there are hardly any active q45's in AUS.

Im currently going through the process of getting my active Q to work (in victoria)

Struts off wrecked cars are very likely just as bad. You'll have to have them reahbilitated also.

Why don't you spend some quality time reading all the posts by texasoil and the FSM?

While the rear suspension is a similar design, it is different in dimension and detail. The MacPherson front suspension of the Y33 is totally different and not in any way compatible.

A wild goose chase these would be.

I have access to a retired Q45a at a local junk yard. I don't know if the hydraulics are in decent shape. If anyone wants the rear sway bar I can pull that as well.

How much will it cost to restore and how much will it cost to convert?

Remember the [20mm] active rear bar is designed to work with the smaller active [28mm] front sway bar. While the difference bewteen 29 and 28 is 13% and that doesn't sound like much, it depends upon WHERE you start and what you desire.

Important for neutral handling that the effective roll stiffness front and rear is matched to the vehicles weight distribution ratio front to rear.

A vehicle that has 54% weight on the front needs 54% of stiffness on the front.......................the difficult parts is how the weight changes on individual tires when you turn, brake, or accelerate.

Obviously a pure fixed mechanical system can on be 100% correct under only one condition.

Have you emailed Keith*texasoil) yet? Either that or get one from Japan.

A proper conversion will cost as much as restoring the active.

Firstly, read the FSM active sus section 100 times so i can understand how the thing works.

I have changed the fluid (it hardly had any there in the first place as there was a slow leak from the reservior)

Im going to be plugging in scan tool to pull some codes out of consult and see what the computer thinks is happening and just go from there.

I went and spoke to a Toyota active suspension Guru near me and discussed some options, but like he also mentioned, check what codes are being thrown up first.

(in your case Freakart it probably wouldnt matter if you know its a leak anyway)

This guy rebuilds toyota active struts and has also designed his own replacement active strut. But i know i will be looking at $2000 minimum if we need to start playing with struts

(My father also used to work on the Mercedes with similar systems so ive got plenty of help to get this working)

THe Q45 active struts can be disassembled and the shaft seal replaced. Check with your toyota buddy. There is also a 'shock absorber' repair firm down there--I THINK in Sidney that can renew all the seals also--very reasonable
