I'd check the drain tubes that run away from the sunroof. Pour a little water down the left one and see if the water runs out somewhere. Other than that, the best diagnosis method I've found is having someone look while you run water over different areas of the car. A sheeting action that allows watter to run down the car seems to work better than a hard spray. With that quantity of water in just one night, you have a pretty substantial leak!
Be certain to get as much out as possible. Your electronics can suffer, as well as all of the unfinished metal under the dash.
My truck had a bad leak from a terrible two way radio install (former fleet vehicle) where they poked a power wire through the top of the boot where the main engine harness goes through the firewall to the ECU. Unfortunately the hole was on the top of the boot and directly in the path of rain water dripping off of the hood hinge! Talk about a mildewed smelly mess - seven years of leaking water and smoke. I took all of the carpet out, removed the seat and headliner, and steam cleaned everything for about five hours.
In any case, just try to catch it ASAP... Good luck!
