Is the ldw
button
momentary like the vdc button which will revert to a default state on restart? Or is it an actual switch that will stay pressed even after restart of the car?

Momentary. Defaults to on when you restart the car UNLESS you hold it for ~2 seconds---that changes the default state (unless you lose battery power).

Will the ability to set the momentary default be there if I use the button in another application, or is that something the cars computer takes care of for that button?

Have you heard of the term "AT Mode" or something like that, is that the snow mode? Im trying to buy the snow switch, but the guy is telling me he doesn't have a snow switch, but has a switch under that name, and said it was in the same place that the snow switch is, but he wasn't sure. Also is it a regular switch or a relay switch...what's with all the connectors?

I am not sure if it is handled in the BCM or the switch--never looked at it that close. I was never aware that there was/is a "snow" or winter mode switch for the M. The AT mode is on the 09+ Ms (when the M45X and seven speed auto came to the 35) -- it is the "DS" (Drive Sport) switch. Again, not sure about the LDW switch as I have not looked at it closely.

The LDW was the first thing I changed when I got the car... it's a feature that I never use and it was default ON.
Held the button down for 4+ seconds and now it's default off... momentary switch and the default setting is computer stored.

I have a 2008 M45X. It has both the LDW and Snow switches to which you are referring. Both of these were options, depending upon your model and accessories. According to my owner's manual, and as the others have described, the LDW default is to automatically turn itself back on when you restart the car. You can then turn it off or back on by pushing the switch. To switch from automatic to manual mode (default is OFF) push and hold the LDW switch for more than 4 seconds, when the LDW ON indicator light is off. You can then use the switch to turn it on or off, but the default will be OFF.

The Snow switch is on the console between the left seat heater/cooler switch and the rear sunshade switch. It works much like the Winter Mode switch on my wife's Volvo V70 AWD. I usually engage it on icy or snowy roads. It basically controls the engine output to avoid wheel spin. It is especially useful when pulling away from a stop on snowy/icy roads, but it definitely reduces your ability to accelerate quickly.

If holding the button doesn't work for you (doesn't work for me either), you can put black electrical tape over the LDW camera lens inside the car.

You have to hold the button till you hear it beep at you to confirm the default setting is changed.

Also, before holding the button in for at least 4 seconds, make sure the ignition is ON and the LDW indicator light is OFF. It should reset the default memory to OFF. You should then hear the confirming beep. That is the process for the '08 model. Not sure what year yours is, but if that doesn't work you might want to take it up with your dealer, to see if the process for yours is different.

Thanks for the info on this string I was finally able to turn off my LDW today. I have a '08 M45 and first used the button to turn off LDW, then held the button in for about 4-5 seconds and the system beeped to notify that the new setting was saved!
