I have looked through the forum the best way I can but I haven't seen where anyone posted instructions on how to remove the lcd screen. Mine is totally busted. Do I have to go through the process of removing the changer and work my way up or can I just do what I need by going from top which is less evasive?

It may depend on your model year, but the best place to look regardless is going to be in the relevant FSM (field service manual). See www.nicoclub.com/fsm.

Check the FSM in the above post - it's under ("dash removal" or similar)to make sure, but I believe there are two screws at the bottom of the screen. I know you can get to the top of the screen and trim by un-snapping the center radio speaker grille (3 clips in the front and it slides forward i think). You might need to remove the black multi-switch (NAV, DISP, SETTINGS) ... and to remove that, you need to remove the small wood / aluminum trim that lays between the speedo cluster and the multi-switch. (not the long piece that runs in front of the passenger dash)
*** be VERY careful when un-clipping that speaker grille - it's flimsy and bends VERY easily! ****
They probably recommend that you start at the console and remove everything until you get up to the display scree, but when I wrapped my multi-switch in carbon fiber, I seem to remember seeing that the screen was accessible after I took off the wood trim and the multi-switch.

These are the best picks I could find. Only need to take off the grill and the vent covers as far as I remember. Use this and look at the fsm and you should be good.

since you got it apart i might as well ask, does there seem to be a way to replace just the clear plastic cover of the screen? like in case it's all scratched, can you see a way that it can come off or is it attached to the main unit pretty good? just wondering mine is a bit scratched and i tried stuff like PlastX but it didn't really work.

Thanks!

I didn't investigated that deeply, so I wouldn't be able to tell you. But with how these things are generally built most likely not.
