I just finished doing the "lazy eyes" mod. I have to say it was very easy, all you need is some wires, connectors and two switches. I did it with one switch, which means the lights have to be on for it to work, but i think it looks better with the lights on anyway. If you guys need info on how to do it I'll try and make a little drawing of how to wire everything up.

What's so cool about this is you can have sleepy eyes even at night, and you can switch them on and off at will!!!!!!

Well, i have to kind of make some sort of diagram to show you how it's done, just writing it down would make it difficult to understand.

Basically you have to connect the two switches into your headlight motor relay, it's better if you wait a bit for me to make a diagram on my paint software. I'm working on it, give me a while and I'll have it done.

Then I'll try and make a more detailed copy and submit it to the mods, maybe they want to sticky it or put it in the Installs section, I know a lot of people want to do this without having to pay $80+ for the Pivot unit.

Ok, here it goes:

You need:1) 6 male and 10 female connectors2) 20-30 ft 18 gauge wire3) 2 switches, any style you want but for me the best kind is a flip switch.

MAKE SURE YOU DISCONNECT YOUR BATTERY!!! You have to locate your headlight motor relay, on the passenger side right next to the coolant reservoir. You have to remove the relay labeled "H/L RET CONT". Then you would have to connect the wires like it's shown in the diagram below. NOTE: Don't make the 2, 3, 4 and 6 wires too long, 3-4 inches is enough, otherwhise you might have trouble closing the fuse box. 1 and 5 can be as long as you want them to be, depending on where you want to place your switches. You can place your relay upside down in the space next to the plug and close the lid. THAT"S IT!!!!!!

Now the tricky part: with the switches in the ON position, your headlights will operate as they normally do. In the OFF position, your headlights will come on BUT they won't come up. What you have to do is turn on your lights, then flip the switch ON/OFF quickly 2-3 times, or until you get the desired gap, personally i think 3 fingers looks the best.

Please note that I only have one switch in mine, it's connected to 5, 1 is not connected to the switch. That means that whenever I turn the lights off, my headlights reset themselves. I like it that way.

hehehe... it's the controller that uses the "game play" method. Each time you do the sleepy-eye, it becomes a game cuz you have to flip it exactly the right time or it will go too far or not enough.

What he said =)

I bought the car with the kit on it. It also had a big, weird spoiler. The suspession consisted of cheap springs that were heated on stock shocks rolling on 15" alloys. I took it under my wings and removed the spoiler, gave it Sprint springs wrapping a set of KYB AGX shocks and struts. Then gave it new shoes: 5Zigen Typhoons 17x7.5 and 17x8 ... and won't end there....

I'll post pics tomorrow.

another diagram of the same thing maybe? Your writeup is hard for me to visualise. I can understand this one a little better. there have been a few threads started on this subject already. making one a stickey or adding it to the forum faq would be a good idea I think.

here are a few other threads:http://www.nissaninfiniticlub....y+eyehttp://www.nissaninfiniticlub....y+eyesome of it is more arguing about doing the mod than how to do it, but a few more sources of info. I am also very curious as to how exactly the pivot box actually works and if someone can replicate it.

It sounds like the best solution is something that turns off or disables the motor halfway down, instead of starting from the off position. That is, you turn the lights on and they flip all the way up like stock. then you turn them off, and they never completely rest in the full off position, instead they go halfway down and stop. I think a lot of people are approaching it by figuring how to stop it while they are popping up. also, this trend comes from japan, so how do they do it in japan??? do they all use pivot boxes, or what?

I have a question for those who already got this mocification. Does this modification hurt the headlight motor? I'd like to try this, if there is no problem with it. thx....

just to let you know, the last diagram controls the "down" motion. unlike the first one, you can't turn on your lights with the the "sleepy" look. FYI

How does the headlight motor know exactly when the headlights are in the down position? Does it use a preset timer or is it a sensor?

If it is a timer, you could put a resistor in the power wire to the headlight motors, which would decrease the amount of movement in the same amount of time.

I had the same question a while back. After looking at the wiring diagram I determined that it must use internal limit switches to control it. So being the adventurous person that I am, I took the little headlight contoller/motor thingy out and took it apart to see if I could figure out a way to make it work by adjusting the switches or something. Well, that didn't work out too well. It uses a large plasitc gear with metal strips on it. When the gear rotates to the end of the metal, the motor stops running. Pretty sweet idea really, but dosen't help me in my quest for sleepy eyes on my 240. BTW, taking out your headlight motor is a bad idea. It's a pain in the *** to get back in right. :)

Well, the first diagram is taken from a Japanese drift video. That's probably how it's done in Japan if you don't want the Pivot.

Maybe we could convince Nismo or some aftermarket company to start marketing smaller gears for the headlight motors so they will stop halfway down :) haha that would be cool.

So ok, anybody else thought of a way to stop the motor when the headlight gets around halfway?

Would a momentary switch work in place of a toggle switch? I am going to try this mod and was wondering if this would work better. Since momentary switches are just just held down until you want to the thing to turn off(lights to stop going up).

One of the links in my previous post they use the momentary switch I think. they give the part number at radioshack and everything to make it easier on ya. i think slw240sx used it, ask him.

well if anyone is good w/ electronics and wants to experiment i'm sure it would be easy to make a self timed little switch with a few capacitors and such.
