Hello all,

just checking to see if anyone has been able to install the latest version of the display (blue/current) in an 08 M35? I just got a loaner and really like the layout and would like to upgrade my navi and all to that new display.

Welcome to the forum.

I think someone tried that (DeanM45?), may be able to use search and dig up that info.

Sorry, confused myself. When I read this last night every late I was thinking of changing the orange interior to blue/white which I believe Dean or someone tried. I don't think anyone has tried changing the actual AV screen.

Dean did swap the instrument cluster: post6526883.html?hilit=instrument%20clu ... p#p6526883

pretty much a direct swap/plug and play

He also resoldered new LEDs for the AC/NAV/multicontroller: post6619442.html?hilit=led%20swap#p6619442

much bigger pain in the rear, there were alot of LEDs to desolder/resolder, but can be done.

From what I know, the 08 you have is the "newer" display compared to the orange from the 06 & 07. Or are you looking to install a display from an M56/M37?

Ahh, this makes more sense. He got a loaner which I would expect to be a Y51 (what dealer is still loaning out a Y50 lol) and I think that's what he's looking for. Man, must have been tired cause that totally flew over my head :rotflmao .

I doubt this would work...the harnesses are likely quite different due to the the fact that the AC system, etc. is different (forest air in the Y51, etc.). Unfortunately, OP, no one on here has tried to put a Y51 AV into a Y50...

I agree Ilya. I don't see how it could be a matter of simply 'switching out' newer for older. I believe that you might be able to swap out the 2009-2010 screen for the 2007 possibly. The speedo, NAV screen, A/C and NAV switches, etc may also be compatible and have the blue/white colors instead if the amber in the older years. They were all basically the 2007 just done over in a new color scheme and a slightly different colored screen format. But none of those years will have the same graphics or will they be compatible with the Y51.
My 2009 screen has a different color scheme than did my 07, but it's still very different from the Y51's

Thanks all for the replies and sorry for the delayed response. The interface on the new maps is MUCH better. I was wondering if there was a head unit that pushed all the nav interface, info screen, status as those are pretty much the same other than the presentation.

Thanks guys, I will probably look at a nav hack and gmaps.

If you want to get crazy, I'd find the thread on here of someone building a 'carputer'.
