Question: Can the 1994 and later side window glass be used in 1990-1993 Q45s?

I have a 1991 Q45. Besides peeling tint, the steel buttons in the upper rear corners of the front door glass are rusty and staining the outer glass. The same in the upper front of the rear window glass. This is not seen to be as much of an issue in the later ones I see.

Online, I read that the side window glass was improved for isolation of outside noises. On replacement part listings, I see that early and late 1st Gen have different listings for side glass. Do they have the same attachment points to the regulator? I see a listing for left and right regulators that state compatability from 1990-1996. One would assume that the attachments to the glass match based o this. If they cross fit and attach properly, do the later glass pieces require changing out the channel at the same time?

80391-68u00 is the new part # for one of the above. Just forgot which

The part numbers for these "steel buttons".
They are a Japan only part. Discontinued in US. I have a few extra from a batch ordered last year. The glass is thicker on the 1994-1996 yes. Better sound proofing. Ideally they should fit just fine... that leaves the rear front and the 2 "3rd row" glass wouldnt improve a thing unless all are replaced I bet... finding a junkyard dog without rusted Steel buttons as well...

Clean up the tint... get new "steel buttons" and hit the glass with some LCR and polish them up... good to go. Replacing the glass seems like a waste

I’m having the exact same problem with my side glass buttons rusting and streaking the glass.

I will be taking off the tint and cleaning up the glass very soon - this weekend or before. It is so bubbled from sitting up in the heat that I have difficulty seeing out it at night.

Right now, I can snag the windows from a 1995 in salvage for under $30 each with untarnished - non-rusted buttons. The channel rubber is $8 each. I may still follow that path soon, don't want it to get away as they are not showing up with the frequency they did about 5 years ago. I'm fairly well versed in changing side glass and regulators from a prior '92 SE-R, a '94 Q45, my also current '02 Q45 and this '92 Q45 previously. It's a pain and the arms need protection from metal edges, but doable without great trepidation.

Thanks for the encouragement about the fit. I may take the channels just in case the original is any bit tight on the slighly thicker glass. I usually pull the channel, thoroughly clean and spray down and soak for a few days with "industrial" silicone lubricant before reinstalling window channels. Uncertain if it really helps, but OCD nature directs me so. Cleaning the channels does prevent a gritty sound when closing the window on old pieces.

I ordered the above mentioned metal side window plugs form amayama and they only had four left in stock. I bought them all. $1.48 each and $35 for regular shipping and was sent plastic plugs. Not even sure they’ll work

If your silicone lubricant works well then ignore this, but you might try using Honda Shin-Etsu grease for the window channels - it's a silicone grease specifically made for that. I've seen it highly recommended on multiple forums and it's improved the window motion on every vehicle I've used it on.

I didn’t realize there was two steel buttons on each window so I am in need of four more. I’d gladly buy them from you if you’re open to that?

When I ordered mine it was delayed like 10 or 11 days as I cleared their inventory + some. They offered to ship what they had for cost shipping and when the others arrived for free. I told them to just ship when they all arrive. I have been using them since the early 2000s or so. Amayama is pure Integrity (I dont work for them)

You are absolutely right about Amayama.
I Inquired about buying a new seat belt for driver side of a 96 Q45.

Just in one day they responded that Japan laws prohibit any products that are gas controlled.

What company here would have that kind of customer service. None.

Thx for the info.
