Hey, i am just starting my swap tonight, i have an s13 with the DOHC. I was just wondering if anyone had any tips.

Also i was wondering about the A/C procedure for the sr, nobody covers it that well that i could see...and ive done a large amount of research.

Thanks everyone.

i would replace the water pump and i had a lot of trouble with the stock turbo coolant lines breaking. braded lines are great and are a lot eiser to put in with the engine out of the car

^just discharge them yourself and pretend you did'nt do it. Be careful not to breath in.

i didn't discharge tthe system tonight because i am unsure whether or not whether or not i need to, my cousin said on alot of cars that you can just undo the compressor from the engine, and flex it a little...but he wasn't sure about this one impeticular, anybody know? also, how bad is the **** for you, like, on a scale from 1 to 10, anti-freeze ranking about a 5...

and what kind is it, cuz if its the "liquid gold" kind how much will it cost me to refill it?

breathing in freon on a scale of 1 -10 (10 being worst) is a 1. Freon is inert and non-toxic. The only thing freon reacts with is O3 (ozone).

The newer stuff, R12, is much more expensive than the older R134 systems (i think shops around her charge $55 per pound). Systems are only compatible for one type of freon.

In the end, I would rather have an AC shop evac my system as there have been reports of older styles of freon causing heart problems when initially exposed to them (we're talking way old, though. Probably not what's in your AC system), plus I'd rather not contribute any more than I unwittingly do to the ozone depletion.

oil pump oil pump oil pump oil pump oil pump...

When I did my swap I found out that the Effin' thing had a bad oil pump so now I have to take apart the engine again and change the oil pump.... what a biotch.

Change water and oil pump while the engine is out.

r12 = old stuff thats $50+ a pound. r134a = new stuff thats like $5 a pound

given your car is an s13, it is probably r12 unless someone else did the conversion. Make sure you know before recharging the system, as mixing r12 and r134a creates a poison.

if you can, have your a/c discharged professionally. if you can't... don't worry about it. but fyi, when you discharge it yourself A/C lube will go everywhere! wrap a towel or something around the port, cover the winshield of your car with a sheet, or something. you get the idea.
