Within the past week or so the JUN Lash Killer Kit has come up atleast 2 times. So I decided to find out what the heck it does. This is copied from the JUN Usa site:

The SR20 engine has a lash adjuster for tappet clearance (except Pulsar RNN14). This design offers a maintance free adjustment. However, this is a disadvantage of poor movement during high rpm due to the oil pressure control. This posses a major problem as a base engine for high performance. JUN has produced a Lash Killer Kit that allows the SR20 engine to achieve higher rpm's by using a solid process on the lash adjuster.

Call me new, but Lash Adjuster? Tappet? What are these things? And what does this kit do? I'm doubt I'm only one...

JUN also says that "solid type" cams must be used, as apposed to "lash type" cams. Anyone wanna tackle that?

And Yes, I did Search for "Lash Killer" first. :icesangel

The Lash Killer keep the rocker arm from comming out under high RPM and losing a cylinder or causing major damage to the head and cams. There a MUST for anyone that is working a SR20 hard... and wants it to live...

Thank you. The explains the general function. I guess from that the "lashes" are the RA? What about tappets?

Lash is the clearance between the rocker arm and the top of the valve when the valve is closed, the sr20det uses hydraulic lash adjusters to keep the lash at 0 and never needing adjustment(and a quieter valvetrain). Above ~7400 RPM this poses a problem. A lash killer kit converts the valvetrain to completely mechanical, and supposivly you can rev to 8000 or 8200 rpm on stock bottom end (not that I would do it) the lash killer kit is unnessicary unless you want to rev that high.

The lash killer kit will save your head. You know how everyone says the valvtrain is why the SR sucks? Well, give it solid lifters, and it will not be weak anymore. It can survive to 9000. (the head anyway)

Next step, the block is gonna need bearings to handle that sort of revving. Oh yeah, and throw on a HUGE turbo to take advantage of all that top end. Anything normal sized will not make any power up there.

Taka Kaira has the kit for $572 but I also think you have to use a set of their solid camshafts. Can someone confirm this?

Some one want to compare this to using a Rocker Arm Stopper while we're at it? Sounds like this conversion changes you rockers to the mechanical type like a honda, where you need to go in and adjust the valve lash every 30K.-James
