Largest total tire diameter + best offset?

Hey guys... I was wondering, what's the largest total tire diameter that will safely fit into the wells of the S13s? Also, what offset should be paired with this size? Theoretically, these wheels/tires would be used with coilovers and the riveted-on fender flares. Some suggestions?

Ultimately, what tire sizes do you guys suggest for an autocross-oriented/grip car? I was thinking 17 X 9s (maybe wider out back) with fatty sidewall overlap and 40-series rubber... I can't begin to imagine what offset to use... Thanks, guys!

rim size to reccomend with flares eh? 18x9.5 +3 front 18x11.5 +1 rear. 235/40 tire front 273/35 rear.
