Is this possible to fit a speaker larger then 4x6 in the s13 front? If so what does it involve? I was thinking of the infinity kappa 5x7, has anyone done this?

Thanks...

I got a 6x9 in mine, you have to cut the side panel to th size of the speaker and then drill an extra hole in the metal of the door. I didn't do a great job on mine, so it is held by only 3 screws, but the sound is great, also watch out for the speaker magnet hitting the window glass. it should't if your magnet is small (cheap speakr like mine) but if it's big, then you might have to raise the speaker from the body panel toward the interior of the car, so it won't hit the glass. Also, use enough Dynamat to cover any holes you might have after installing the speaker, or your sound will be sucky (won't hear the voices, and base will be non existent).

I hate to say this, but if you have to use a cheaper speaker "if you think just cause it has a smaller magnet", its not worth the effort and time to install it. A really good pair of smaller speakers will sound better than cheaper bigger ones.

1. its not the size of the package, but how you use it, lol

p.s.. .. or so I have been told:D

size of magnets doesn't change quality, it changes power...

I put a set of Quart 6 1/2 's in mine. Took the "pods" that the old 4x6's set in and made a trace of them onto peice of fiberboard and cut out. Then cut opening for Quarts and mounted to door. Sound is great. You could here Whitney Houston fart on the cd.

I did the same with the front as far as cutting out a wood template and installing a set of Kicker 5x7's. Does anyone have any thoughts as to what to do with the rear? The space is much more confined. I would like to find a way to at least fit another set of 5x7's, but am starting to think that is impossible. Suggestions??

6 1/2 would be the best because of the round shape.

Yes, they are 4x6 all around. Plenty of room in the front to change but the rear speakers are really tight. Haven't had luck with anything larger than the 4x6 yet.

theres a snap ring in the crank handles, and the door handles just pop off. I put Blaupunkt 4x6 in the front and blaupunkt 6 1/2's in the back along with an amp and Visonik 10" subs (the kind that already come in the box) the subs are a tight squeeze, they actually touch the top of my trunk, but they pound.

yea or u can use flatheads, but with a flathead you'd have to know where the ring is to be precise.

I slapped a pair of 6x9's in the door without cutting the door panels. Take off the door panels. while they're off. take the grills from the factory speakers off. since the factory speakers are amped, by taking out the speakers AND the amps (you won't need them and they sound thin anyway) you open enough space behind the door panel to fit almost anything in there. The pain is getting the new speakers to mount on the door panel. you might need longer screws than the ones that came with the speakers. Use the little retaining clips since your new speakers are heavier than the old grills. After you hook up the new speakers, put your door panels back on, wash all that white sealant off your hands and see if you can't make the neighbors yell.

It changes the power handling of the speaker, but I think that's what you meant.

More importantly, it also changes the transient response of the speaker. Larger magnet = more mass that needs to move. You will also need more amplifier power to move the mass effectively. In short, the larger the driver, the slower it gets in response to musical changes.

A 6x9 in the front door isn't the best place to put that speaker. It's primarily a mid/low driver. The area behind the speaker is just as important as the size of the driver itself, and having the door panel as an enclosure for a mid/low driver would sound like a$$. Muddy midrange and terrible bass response.

You would be better off with a component setup in the front and a bass/sub-bass driver in the rear.

If engineered correctly, a ported box will perform on par with a sealed box.

Vented will get a higher output and sealed tends to be more accurate - In well engineered system, and I do not consider anything in the automotive stereo world as well engineered in terms of speaker design but my opinion is skewed in this matter. I have yet to hear a car stereo system that didn't sound like crap.

Then you havent been listening to many. Competitive car audio has many "well Engineered" systems. Competitive car audio aka db drag or sq is a pretty precise thing. anybody can get 4 big nasty speakers and put them in a pre fabricated box and put up a decent amount of db. A "well engineered" system is a tad more complex than that. Excursion, ect all are all intrical(sp) parts of the sytem not to mention the car its self (stuff like flex, sand in the doors or concrete in the floors). Im sure all of the jlw0's and Kenwood "Swirlys" youve heard havent impressed you but trust me there are very good car audio syestems out there.

A bandpass and a ported box are two different animals. A bandpass is what happens when a ported box and a sealed box are mashed together (simplified version). A bandpass is Extremly accurate and Louder than a sealed box, but only at a certain freq. everything else you said about ported however is true, for the most part
