Larger Oil Filter for the EX35/37/QX50

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

My 2008 EX35 AWD is at 78k miles now and still uses Penzoil ULtra Synthetic Oil which I love to use. Less camshaft ticking.... I bought four 5 quarts of Penzoil Ultra (Walmart) and I am down to one. I might switch to Mobile 1 High mileage Full synthetic oil afterwards since this one has more additives for better seal longevity... The Ultra is pretty slick and could go to a weaker points of the seal. It might just be a coincidence that a few months ago, I had an oil weep behind the timing chain cover that was finally fixed by replacing the whole front cover and not just the seal.

Back to the subject, I used to just buy an OEM oil filter for the EX35 till 73k miles and I decided to search around and found out that most G owners tend to buy a larger oil filter size that the V8 Infinit trucks use.

So after all the research I settled for this (part# XG7317)

I just had to fill engine with 5.5 qts of oil. (Looking at the dipstick middle marker)

Another option is MOBILE 1 M1-110

Note: You have to add more oil than normal during oil change since the larger oil filter has few more room for extra oil to keep the normal oil pressure.
So far so good! No pressure warning isssue as expected. ( from the G37 forum)

Good post ! I've wondered about the tiny oil filter, too - but figured manufacturer knew what they were doing or they wouldn't warranty it with that size filter...I change oil every 3-5000 miles and it still looks clean.
I use Castrol Edge, happy with it. Interesting thought on the oil leak - my Audi never leaked a drop until I switched to full synthetic after 65K miles of using conventional oil. Since then, it has leaked in spite of switching back to conventional oil - apparently leaking from some internal seal that the dealer says would cost $2,000 to fix (!!) - I can add a lot of oil for that price. Still leaks at 175K miles, all else normal...

All of them basically has the same diameter vs OEM oil filter ,it just a few cm longer. Perfectly fits underneath the car with more room around it...
