Does anyone here have a laptop in the 240....im sure someone does. Im looking into using it to play my audio, and for movies and such. Anyone found a way to mount it in the style of police vehicles? With an arm and a swivel sort of contraption?

Note: Using a kaptop to play video/audio in a car is a dumb idea.

right next to your NAAAAAAAWS button for easy access but dont blow the welds on the intake manifold.

sry, but yea wouldnt it be great if you got in an accident because u were messing with your audio/video jive on your laptop instead of paying attention to the road,

that and most people on this forum are more performance oriented, and i agree, if you want to put laptops and giant systems in your car you should of bought a honda, because at least they dont hvae as much potential as a 240 to bastardize

Yo, i mounted my laptop to the dashboard just to the right of the radio controls and such. I use it for gps and and other things to help keep my mind off the road. Anyway, I basicly hung it from the top of the dash where the window and dash meet. I made some little blask straps with hooks. Put some foam behind the PC and one more strap that hooks under the passenger compartment.

I agree that computers don't belong in cars, but I'm still curious to see what it looks like in a 240, stash, do you have pics of yours???

wouldnt you want to keep your mind on the road? that makes alot more sense.

musicsurfman - with the e 101 or something like that you can make changes without a laptop i think, plus the laptop is more complex for things such as dyno tuning, not really for tuning while your driving down the highway

OK, I should have been more specific. I know computers are already in our cars, I meant laptops, etc.... I don't think people should be surfing the net, watching movies, instant messaging, or whatever while driving....thats all :rolleyes

I think it's a great idea! I've thought about it before. Disassembling the touch pad and put it behind the mirror switches in the center console. Taking the flast screen off, extending the harness and mounting it to a hidaway type, slide out flip up kinda dealy's in the center dash. Put the rest of the computer under your seat! Just my idea but that's how id do it. Guaranteed you'd be the only one with a 15" flat on yer dash! They make output cables for the audio as well. Goes from a headphone jack to rca...right to the amp. Not to mention the SAFS capabilities.

Mine sits on my passenger seat when in use, but I only have the PCLink software on it for my standalone, and solitaire. i have been known to get bored in the staging lanes and bust out a quick solataire.

accully ive been planing this out, ill build a computer in the trunk (probily where the spair wheel goes) have a good 200 gigs of space (one drive) then wire a touch screen up to the front (10 to 14") put it in the dash (have it molded in with fiberglass) and you would be all set.. hook it up to your recever and u would have everything u would want, you could even have a GPS system hooked up with a map program... a cheap onstar system ;) .... and it would also give the person next to me somthing to do on a long road trip (as i do this often.. i drive ALOT on the weekends)

computers ARE NOT rice they are a useful tool, and soon all the new cars will have a computer system in them for the driver/passager... so.. get used to it ;)

Three letters I-T-X. Run a search on ebay or a search engine and u will see what I mean. They are very small computers with a ton of stuff already built in(i.e. RCA Composite and S-video out ports, etc). They are only like 170mm by 170mm, I even saw one in a Millenium Falcon model. I've been planning on doing something like this since I had my last 240 but for now it will have to wait until I finish work on the new one(no point in an in-car computer if the car can't leave the driveway).

Edit: Just checked out http://www.mini-itx.com/ and there is a little article up about someone who did a project just like this.

i think that it is illegal to have a laptop showing any kind of video while running, i know that any of the dvd/gps screens you can buy have only let you use gps unless the parking brake is engaged, and some factory gps (like the lexus ones) dont let you play around and change your destination while moving (but the touch screen is used for a/c, radio, etc)
