lady wont talk for low gas

I have a 84 300zx and supposedly when I am less than a 1/4 tank full, another needle drops down the fuel gauge for a seperate gauge. Then when it gets down to an 1/8th of a tank, the lady comes on and notifies that I am low on gas. Well my needle never comes down and the lady never says that. shes says the other 3 things she is supposed to but not that. what could be wrong?

you need the gauges to work properly for the warning to come on it bases its warning point on gauge input. You probably have a circuitry problem in the gauge.

Interesting fact,find the drive unit for the voice open it up and flip the disk over and its in japanese. Next time she says "KEY IS IN THE IGNITON" Think "MY KNEES ARE IN POSITION"

would I have to change the whole gauge cluster or is it possible to just change that one unit?

I think it might have something to do with the sending unit in the tank but not sure, I cant quite recall exactly how that system was set up. Do you have a FSM or at least a good wiring diag for your cluster? if so post it and I will look it over and see if I can refresh my memory.
