Looks like I hit rock bottom. The original 483,000 mile engine in my 1996 Nissan Harbody threw the #4 rod right through the side of the block. I wasn't worried because I thought I had a KA24DE (used 132,000) ready to go in. Turns out, that engine will probably blow within 1,000 miles. Long story so I'll leave it out. Now, I'm gonna do all the reading I can because I know this "engine swap" topic comes up all the time and I'm sure it gets old. The only question or opinions I'd like are what engine options do I have to consider for a swap? I really have no idea what will bolt up to what. I have the stock 5spd manual and a blown engine. Throw whatever you can at me and I sure do thank you for your time.

question is how much money do you want to throw into a truck that has nearly half a million miles on it?

That's a good question. I can only answer by saying I really like the truck. I'm not too crazy about the color...if you didn't guess...it's purple but I've known the truck since it was new. I bought it from a friend who bought it from a friend and that guy bought it new. Not really important, but we all liked this little truck and we swore if the motor went bad today we'd geta reman dropped in asap. Well, a Jasper turn key is right at $2200 installed yadda, yadda. I sold the KA24DE I mentioned previous to a kid who just had to have it AND I tried to explain but he knew more than me so...deal. Now I have another KA24DE that was running in the car but the emissions...all of the emissions had been removed so it didn't idle very well and seemed to run a little rich with a touch of black smoke. I chanced it, $300 and he had all the emissions (so he said) for me to put back on. I told that story to tell this story. I'm back to putting a 1992 240SX KA24DE into 1996 D21. I've got the harness w/ECU and a pretty nice Nissan tech manual but I still like to have first hand information such as on a forum like this when I'm doing this kind of swap. Interests being, how much trouble is this emission reinstalation be and what sort of wiring harness problems, if any, will I encounter. I guess that's it for now. I'm going to do a search and read all that I can but some help along the way will be much appreciated. Thanks.

in the truck...the best I can do to answer that is SOHC ka24e. good engine except for the fist size hole in the block right above the #4 freeze plug...or maybe it's below the freeze plug...can't remember. I'll post a pic in a while. worth looking at anyway
