Yeah, I have the same deal with my '04...plugs/filter may help a bit...but I've gone through my engine pretty thoroughly and everything is kosher...so here's my proposition to you...get on the interstate and drop overdrive off, letting the transmission fall back into 3rd gear, and accelerate from there. Don't romp on it too hard - these Nissan computers are kinda dumb and mine acted like it wanted to jump into 2nd gear at 65 when I floored it...but compare your acceleration between romping in 4th with the kickdown and just getting some in 3rd and I believe you'll come to the same conclusion that I did - the gearing in 3rd sucks ***. It's actually quicker, safer and easier on equipment if you just watch your mirrors, drop back a little bit and get a running start on your pass and just let the trans stay in 4th gear while you pass....for some reason, the truck wants to accelerate faster at 2-3k RPM in 4th than 5-6k in 4th..........which is very unnatural for a overhead cam engine...According to Edmunds.com the '04 Pathy put out 240hp (w/ auto) but the peak hp was attained at 6,000 RPM...if you look at a dyno chart for most engines, you'll see substantial gains are made in the mid-RPM powerband, and slows significantly near the top...so, slamming the engine to 6,000 RPM is great - but you're no longer building HP (read: you won't go any faster), and after peak has been attained, HP numbers drop off sharply.....it's just the nature of the beast...so, sure, by all means, check your gear out, make sure everything is good.....but IMHO, it's just the gearing and peak HP you're fighting...and you'll lose at that, unless you alter gear ratios, or add power (exhaust, performance chip, intake, etc.)....hope this helps a bit.
