My car lets me rev past 2500, but power is very intermittent. As I accelerate or when load is applied going uphil or something it feels as if its cutting the fuel by about 70%. It does this off and on for no more than a second or 2 at a time, but it does this very frequently.

Also i noticed while holding a steady pedal position on flat road in 3rd, it would fade in and out of the power-loss condition in a smooth, slowly repeating cyclic pattern.

I know that timing is 5° retarded (ive got a SOHC hood, says set to 15° not 20) but im confident that wont resolve the issue.

I tried a 300zx maf, ..or so i was told thats what it was, and the randomness didnt completely subside... but it was smoother. Less power overall but better than the defunct state with the other maf, however it stalled at idle.

you may have a lazy O2 sensor. have the sensor tested with a oscilliscope for high and low voltages, rise time, and cycles in time
