yeah an inverter should do just fine, just get one thats a little bigger than your draw. you could also see if your laptop manufacturer makes a cig lighter to laptop adapter, so you dont have to bother with the dc->ac->dc stuff.

just set it to hibernate within 5 minutes of non-use in battery mode. you can run the inverter thru a switched relay and it'll be on only when the ign is on.

any good quality speakers and subs for laptops are usually ac and fairly hefty. youll have better luck running the audio output into your head unit aux channel if you have one.
