I got a quote of 5 hours to replace both the compressor\dryer and recharge, using my supplied parts-does this sound reasonable? labor is 75\hr

I'd say three hours but since you're supplying parts (does that include freon?) they have to make their money somehow.

I may not be a fair judge since I did the work myself but I know it wouldn't take me 5 hours. Oh... vacuuming may (should at least) take an hour.

When customer supplies parts we usually add $20 an hour to labor rate to make up for losses on not supplying parts. I should be more but since we don't have a warranty obligation we can charge less.

Good luck and I hope yoiu select parts well.

What about flex hoses and flushing condenser, new orings etc.

parts and o rings are all brand spanking new from Joe- the old compressor is still functioning, just not at 100% - anyone want to buy it? any flushing will be determined by color of oil removed from old compressor-seems most shops dont feel it is needed if old compressor has not seized yet, spewing its guts into the rec/dryer and condenser
