Can anyone tell me what the list labor time is on pad replacement and machining the front rotors.

I've done it before and its a half hour job to replace the pads - getting them to sit right w/ the shims is where I had problems. The dealership wants 2 hours for the pads and another 1 to machine the rotors. So close to $300, is it me or is that absurd?

$300 sounds pretty accurate. But I see 1 hour for pads (using Infiniti dealer labor guide), and about .8 hous for machining rotors. If you include parts, that adds up to about $300. But if they're telling you 2 hours JUST for pads, then I'd be taking my business elsewhere.

Are both of those numbers from the service manual for the Q?

They're from the Infiniti Service Department labor guide updated in 2002.

I just don't see how doing pads would take longer than machining rotors.

The job assumes lots of cleaning and lubing slider pins, chemical treating- drying and bending shims, rotary wire brush cleaning of hubs..........things that are rarely done.........bleeding of calipers etc.

Takes me about an hour per wheel [without indexing] but I am slow.

Understand that the time clock starts when the car is cranked to drive into shop and add a 10 minute test drive to burnish [partial beding] of new pads/rotors before allowing owner to drive away [wonder how often this is skipped]?

I know that changing pads at my shop cost $30 labor the rotors might add another $10-$20....MAYBE!! I would rather go with new rotors anyway just to be sure of thoroughness.
