I have a 94Q with TCS. I am replacing all 8 of the injectors and am wondering what the labor should be on such a job. I know it depends on who and where a lot but I am just looking for a ball park figure. I have done one or two but never all 8, so I really have no clue. Thanks in advance

Depends on who is doing the work. Wes is near you so I am surprised you made this topic.

8 Hours max I think though.

Thanks Paul and I would love for Wes to do the job, but he is in school. When he is not in school I use his advice and skill as much as possible. I am afraid this cannot wait until Spring Break.

Depends on how much cleaning they do, and how many hoses, harnesses, etc. they change. I think Paul's 8 hours is a pretty good guess though.

I always keep a complete rail waiting with new injectors and orings for a fast swap just in case.

On every trip farther than 100 miles I carry the spare rail along with the other dozen common fail items just in case.............never know when you buy sucky gasoline.

The last thing I want to do is pay list or wait days for Fedex on the road in podunk.

But I still gamble with engine, [tranny and diff both replaced in 2003].

Thanks Tech for that bit of info as well. I am curious what other things you might carry along on such a trip to guard against failure and waiting time. I am planning to relocate to Southern California prior to the start of the summer and I am driving the Q.

Time for a new car when you have to carry a "parts department" in your trunk with you when you travel!!!!!

Sooner or later, you just got to consider a car just old, tired, and worn out and retire the old body.....not unlike pulling the plug on human life at the right time.

True but some things would be wise to have on hand. Besides my car and I both are destined to die in Cali not on the way.

In route about the worse thing that could happen would be to need a belt that had to be ordered. That one belt, the lost time and hotel/motel bill are all money wasted. It happened to me in a new car, in the desert on the way to Vegas. It was a rented Ford.

The lucky part was that I was only two miles from a gas station. NO PARTS. I was towed 60 miles to the nearest "big city" Baker, CA ($125). where there is a Ford dealership. No part in stock. I had to stay at a hotel ($80) and caught a Greyhound bus back to LA to pick up another car (a lost day of pay).

I completely agree. I too now have to own up to storing extras in my trunk. At some point it's time the FrankenQ is just a money pit but it is a very gradual slip.

The way I look at it is I purchased the Q mainly because it was a luxury car with excellent reliability, durability and service that I knew would provide me with a long term troublefree ownership experience with the correct preventative maintenance performed.....as soon as that changes, it is no longer serving its intended purpose and time to start over with a new vehicle.

Ideally I would agree with that line of reasoning. I mean who would not like to have a new car or even a newer car for such a trip? I cannot consider though a move and a vehicle purchase. Besides on such a lengthy trip, particularly with such isolated stretches and varied terrain, anything can happen, on any year or any make of anybody's vehicle.

I do not want to be the one stranded because I put all my eggs in ANY ONE MACHINE or easy to get item that I will need to replace in time anyway( like belts, some water/coolant, oil, tools, towels, spare, radiator cap, blanket, to name a few.

But again that is just me, the guy who is going to make a trip of some two thousand miles alone. Our realities appear to be appreciably dissimilar and that is okay. But "MY" question was for suggestions on what I should take feeling how I feel, if I could buy a car or consider it.............. I would.

Just be sure all maintenance is up to date, tires are inspected well, cell phone charged and enjoy the trip!!!

So, for the record...I drove a 3 Q's (16.1 yo, 12.5 yo, and 15.1yo) one at a time from California to Florida over 2700 miles on each trip in the last year.hmmmm, I should prolly start a whole 'nother post on this, but had to reply here. I had zero issues with any of the 3, including 117°F heat on the oldest one, and below freezing temps on the middle one. not even a drop of oil consumed.my spare kit was active fluid, top off coolant, an active ps/wp belt, and a radiator cap. and a few misc hand tools.G50 (and FGY33 for that matter) is a very comfortable and enjoyable x-c cruiser.

Seriously don't stress the car too much. I used to drive a Bonneville from Providence to Washington DC once a month for a year. Your best (honestly) bet is to go to the best dealer in your area and talk to the service advisor there about what you need out of this car and what you want to know. If they are worth have a S*it they will give you an honest assessment of the current state of your car for a basic 1 hour diagnostic checkout. Most Infiniti dealers have a tech that has been there forever, that is the guy you want. Pay him an hour to take a look at your car, if he green lights you you should be good to go.

If there is a bit of an oil leak (within a certain amount) or fluid that is dark that is one thing but if there are worn suspension components or anything related to the brake system, please get that fixed by a qualified professional before putting your life and the lives of the the people you will be driving past on the freeways of America on your venture. Brakes,Steering, and Tires are the most important components of all cars please check them before every trip. On older cars having a (real) professional check if out is seriously a vote of confidence that could make your life seriously easier. However bad things might happen the older guys can usually see the future in an old Q. In a place where these cars are scarce there are only a few people who will actually know these odd creatures.

qship- occasionally you have to work out the cost per mile. If you factor that with the just how much you are willing to put into a car (which for me is minimal) sometimes keeping the classic still works, I am a glutton for punishment so I have gone with an old Infiniti but if I needed cheap transportation I would be looking toward domestic, unless you know people who can help.

Classic Infinitis get expensive and fast, not all gas stations can fix these. I remember when I was working at Indy shops throughout the DC area they feared old Qs as they were expensive to guess at and AllData only has limited information.

Which is why not only should an owner study an know the FSM and these posts, but should also have a copy available in CD form for their technician if he or she is not an Infiniti G50 or even now a FGY33 specialist.

For us, AllData is really only SomeData.
