Yeah well i'm looking to a swap here soon, because my engine is crap, and KAs in general are underpowered unless turboed, which was my plan originally, but places around here want $650 for a KA24E with ****ty compression (infact the same ****ty 150 compression that is causing me to replace my engine in the first place) so I dont know what to do. The plan was to buy another KA-E with like 170 compression and drop it in my car, take out the one I have now with 145-150 and build it outside the car, make it all shiny and **** and ready for my 18psi, but I am not about to pay $650 for a ****ty KA-E, so an L28 came to mind, they will probably be alot cheaper, and will provide more power, only problem I can think of is making room under the hood, and all the power steering/ac lines, and will the L28 be able to power the AC compressor. Blah. tell me what you think.

The stock L28 will have less power than your KA24DE (138hp, don't know the torque figures off the top of my head but they aren't all that great either). You can run an A/C compressor off of it. As far as fitment goes, I imagine if an RB will fit under the hood of a 240 then the L28 shouldn't have any issues. Despite the extra displacement it's not really a big motor. Has it been done before? Yes.

As far as what I think of the swap, I like the L-series engines a whole bunch. They are incredibly durable engines. However, I don't think that swap is advantageous in any way. You'd be putting in a heavier, older, longer engine with less power and worse emissions than the stock KA. Handling will probably suffer somewhat with that setup. Overall it probably isn't worth it...unless you get an L28-T, but that is a whole 'nother racket and if you are going that route you might as well build up the L28-T and forgo the KAT. The L28-T can be a very mean motor when it's built and aftermarket support is pretty good.

Yeah sorry I wasn't very clear before, the engine, whatever engine it is, will be being built up for turbo, I just want to get it rebuilt with 8.5:1s, some good rods, some new studs to keep the head on the block, a 5 way valve job, port and polish, and polish the valve cover for some bling bling hah. I figure that engine should be set for a number of years, turbo or not, but it will be a dialy driver. I guess i'll just keep searching for a cheaper KA. I mean I could settle for a KA with like 100 compression and just keep the one with 150 in there now for a while, and then rebuild and work on the one that was cheap and ****ty. I just keep hearing about people who got thier KA's with trannys for like 150 or 200 or something, and it seemed like a good idea. But I guess the prices are different here.
