Hey everyone, I'm a long-time Nissan lover/owner but for the past year and a half, I've been driving a 2003 Lexus IS300 and I'm just not feeling it.

I've been trying to sell it for a while but it's hard in this economy to sell a car like mine for cash. SOoo... Since I was going to build a 240sx with an SR20det with the money I was going to get from the car anyway, I figured I would put up a trade offer +cash in my local classifieds. I said I would consider trades for a 240sx with sr20det plus cash and my phone hasn't stopped ringing since. I feel so popular!

As you can imagine, I have had offers from people with some pretty crappy looking cars, and some good looking cars. Someone has offered me their 600hp drift 240sx, even a 2jzgte swapped sc300. But one car in particular is grabbing my attention.

It is an '89 fastback in what I think is very good condition. It has a bunch of mods including:S3 Jim wolf camsACT clutchnew water pumpT28 turboGreddy intake manifoldGreddy biger oil panGreddy rocker stoppersGreddy intercooler & pipesGreddy catch canKoyo radiatorsilicon radiator josesNismo thermostatNismo fuel regulator,Nismo motor mounts,Nismo transsmision mount,DC Sport strut bar,APR radiator cooling plate,Z32 fuel filter,New miata batterysparco pedalss2000 antennaWork Emotion CR-KAI 18" X 8 1/2 with new tires 235-40-18

Kazama inner & outer tie rod,Wicked front pillow tension rods,Tein rear camber arms,Megan rear traction rod arms,Stance coil overs,Stance upper pillow top,Z32 5 lug,Z32 front aluminum calipers 30mm,Z32 new master cylinder,GDR stainless steel brake lines & clutch line,180sx LSD,Apexi 3 1/2 full exhaust,S14 seats, perfect dash,JDM 180sx cluster 180k fix to read mph,Has a sweet LED shift light built into the clusterAEM wide bandOmori gauges(oil pre,oil temp, boost) Auto meter water tempBlitz turbo timer & boost controller,Apexi SAFC NEOClifford G5 alarmB&M short shifter

NOW... he doesn't have any cash to put on top but he does have:19" HRE Performance 540 3 piece Staggered wheels with tires. (retail is about $1,400 per wheel!) an extra s15 sr20det with 6 spd transmission, an extra lsd rear diff, and some miscellaneous extra parts (sunroof, hatch etc...)

I have had a chance to drive the car and I watched it idle for about 20 minutes to make sure it didn't overheat, checked for leaks, inspected interior and paint and it all looks Kosher. The gentleman who owns the car is a mechanic and doesn't have his car for sale, but he said he saw my ad and since he was looking for a bigger car for his growing family, he could give up his whole project for a car like mine. After seeing this car I was very impressed by how smoothly and quietly it idled, and how it didn't smell like gasoline or like old car anywhere. He didn't even have an air freshener!

I figured I could sell some of the extra stuff and make up the difference in price

Pictures of what I'm talking about:My car has 64,000 miles and a few cosmetic mods.

To be traded for...

I'm keeping these wheels^^^

Love the interior^^

I would like an (ahem) un-biased opinion from you guys who know 240s best. I think it looks great and I'd love to trade. If you have any questions that you think I should ask him please let me know. I don't wanna get owned in a car trade lol. Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you all

Holy crap I wish it had those wheels though lol... I've wanted a 240 forever but I got a pretty sweet deal on the Lex, and now I'm tired of it... I love 80s and 90s sports cars, newer cars just don't do it for me.

it looks like the s13 is running positive camber? I think thats a good trade for what's included. I MIGHT be interested in the s15 sr, depending on my funds and also what all comes with it

The owner said he hates nothing more than uneven tire wear and had it like uber aligned to wear evenly. If anything I can take it for an alignment. Lucky for me, my brother and my best friend are both ASE certified mechanics and work at new car dealerships so I get free services!! I'm confident that I can turn the extra parts around pretty quickly, especially where I live, miami FL. You can always count on drug dealers to have plenty of cash lol...

does look like positive camberi would trade. Ya 240's do have alot of problems but they are fun as hell. And is that is stock mod wise?If so it sounds like a good trade plus a s15 sr20 and transmission you can sell that for like 3k i think.that car has alot of nice goodies and as long as its not leakings and not over heating at idle and runs good it sounds legit.

Sounds like a deal if you get the s15 sr as well. The 240 looks clean to boot. Throw some paint on the s13 and you have a clean, nice 240.

The IS doesn't have any performance mods, just axle back L-tune exhaust and ebay intake. The 2jz sounds really nice under load

Dude i love 240 and stuff but you are about to take a big step backwards if you do that trade. Why do you think so many people called you cause everybody know that the lexus holds a way stronger value than a 240 any day of the year. Dont get suckered in by the mods look at it this way. Grab a blue book and compare it doesnt matter if he put an jet engine in that 240 at the end of the day if you wreck the car insurance is only going to give you tops 3000. Where the lexus they would probaly give you twelve to thirteen.

IMHO slowly build your own car.

I would prolly want to know why in the hell there is a nitrous kit on it?

that doesnt sound like an innocent, nicely treated, long lasting car to me.

Rofl.

Why would you downgrade so much? An s13 is no where near the car of an is300.

only the righteous eye can point it out..

look real hard on the engine bay pic of the 240...left side above where the fuel filter is located you can one of the components and then look real hard at the cold pipe running into the throttle body you can see where the port has been drilled and the line has been inserted for nitrous injection. Looks like an NX system.

I believe thats what that is, i dont know of anything else that would tap into the charge pipes unless its a sensor and i dont believe a sensor uses a SS braided line...

hell no. i don't know where you got the money to buy a 60K mile Is300 but i'd imagine you had to pay 13+ for that car.

that 240 on the other hand IMO is worth no where NEAR that.

If i had a IS300 ONLY 240 i would consider is a LSX or 2JZGTE swapped S13 coupe or a S14. and even then i would still be very hesitant to trading.

Is300 with coilovers and bolt ons and a LSd with good tires is ALOT of fun.

Both cars are clean, the 240 looks stellar.BUTTTT...The build is more than half the fun. Through building your own car, you know that its done right, or at least the way you did it. You also get the experience of doing it yourself. The best is the satisfaction when it's all done(though they never are).I'd buy a cheap, straight shell and start from there. And having the IS as a DD means nothing can go wrong =DJust my $0.02

Thanks for all the input guys... I'm taking into consideration alot of factors here.. I am paying out of my @$$ for insurance on the lexus, as it happens to be one of the most expensive cars you can possibly insure. Given my age- 22 years old I would save over a thousand dollars a year on insurance alone. I also have a couple years of payments left on the lexus. (I'm paying back a family member) This way I could sell the extra stuff and pay off my debt.

The nitrous solenoids were one of the first things I noticed upon opening the hood and I asked about them and he said he was going to make it a show car and thought he could get some brownie points by having a nitrous kit but ended up scrapping the whole idea for the sake of reliability.

I've also had a B13 sentra for about five years now and I absolutely love the car to this day. (It has over 200,000 miles and still going) I miss driving stick shift alot too. 90s sports cars(especially nissans) are my favorite kind of cars. I love going to car hang outs but alot of people with luxury sports cars (Lexus BMW) are butt holes with WAAY more money than I have so I don't feel so baller anymore lol.

I'm going to see the car again very soon and I'll take more pics and scrutinize everything before I make a final decision.

Seems like you and I are similarly torn. There's nothing like having your project car as your DD, except when it breaks! Your're still young @ 22 and you've time to do that project. It's really difficult to get to work to make those payments when your car is sitting in the yard for whatever reason. The IS3 can be a fun car even though it on the heavier side of the equation, it just needs a little suspension and a few bolt-ons. There are plenty of peeps running boosted IS3's around where I live. Plus as aforementioned, should you ever have to get your insurance company involved, you will make out better on the Lex. Often times it won't take much for them to total it out and just send you a check.
