I'm looking for a set of flat black lug nuts, and I've heard good and bad things about Kyokugen's. Anyone have an opinion or know of a different set thats more reliable. thanx

I use the gorilla lug nuts from discount tire, but I have stripped an ungodly number of them. As long as your wheel stud's threads are perfect they are awesome but if your threads are off at all, the gorillas do this thing where they strip out but won't come off and its a real pita.

I had Kyokugens on my WRX and they were okay, but that tool that comes with them is garbage.

I think I only had a good exprience because I only put them on the car twice, so 2x putting on, 2x taking off. I hear that if you do it a lot, they strip/wear.

I've used a whole bunch of different ones (mostly from going different style wheels/clearances/etc).

The mutekis/kyokugen are aluminum. They will work ok. Color will fade w/in months. Will eventually strip... no locks, etc.

Gorillas are steel. They work much better in terms of sturdiness. No real color options (other than chrome), doesn't strip as easily, can get locks for them.

I take mine out at least once a month, sometimes weekly because I work on my car a lot/change out the rims/etc.

Both will strip eventually if you use air tools. The kyokugen will die almost instantly w/ overtorque/air tools. The gorillas seem to be holding up.

I have kryokugen/mutekis and love them. I take my wheels on/off probably an average of once a week. I use hand tools though.

the most stud damage comes from people either having their impact guns turned up too high and not using a torque wrench to properly torque the wheels (wheel shops just crank up their guns to skip the 2nd step) and from people not hand threading the nut on before using a lug wrench or impact gun. It is easy to cross thread a nut on and using a powerful impact gun you will never realize it is stripped until the next time you take it off (or until it breaks off during driving).
