are the KYB's for the front just inserts? and the rears are full shocks? Got any pics of them?

I might have a locally built solution... Ill know for a fact in Mid-Feb

I can go either way with the KYBs... I didn't plan on getting them at all, but since I've got a shipment of stuff waiting to leave Japan in about 2 weeks, I figured I could always toss more stuff in... the more I ship, the cheaper shipping is for everyone. But if kevin wants to handle the kyb stuff then he should run with it. Like I said, it doesn't matter either way to me.. but it sounded like it was an inconvenience to him/his family to get the stuff over here at first, in which case I'd offer to get the struts for folks, but if it's no biggie for him, then it's prob a better idea for folks to get them from him, cuz my stuff is still coming regardless of whether there's some extra sets of struts in there or not

Louis, yes, the front's are just inserts that go inside the full strut assembly. Unfortunately, I accidentally deleted the pic of the front insert, but I have it at home. Here's a pic of the rear:

edit: I found this used set WITH springs for 10000 yen, that's only a hundy! Good lord that's a steal if they are in good shape. Anyhow, it's an excellent shot of what the inserts look like.

One Ton, you are in a better position to bring them over than I am. I have tried in vain to find an easy shipping source that doesn't cost as much as the shocks themselves. I wish I could make it happen, but I don't know anyone with a container of stuff coming over, so I guess you can take the sales. If you don't have a source on them, I can buy them on yahoo! Japan auctions and deliver to your shipper.

So the touring edition is out of question. At this point in time the choice is OEM only.

Thats what Im getting out of this.

Either that or you can get these but that will delete the sport mode option.

Correct. The Touring model from 99 > is out, unless you don't mind loosing the "sport" mode, which I wouldn't mind if I was you guys, as these are much more "sport" than the "sport" mode stock is.

I don't know, that sport mode really tightens things up. It's really quite suprising.

When I was shopping for my Q, I test drove a 99 Touring and it's definitely an improvement on the 97-98 Touring. Still not as tight as the Tein's and KYB SR's though.

Interesting. It might be worth it to 'lose' that sport mode as I almost never switch *out* of the sport mode in the first place.

Then to be honest, I wouldnt want the KYB's. With mine on sport mode, you can barely get the car to move when pushing on the front or rear end. Thats firm enough for my liking.

Yeah, I'd say if you have a good working system in a 99-01 T then just put the springs on it and call it a day. If it's that firm already, it should work well with the Tein's.

I'm with you, I will keep the OEM setup. I used to have the set of KONIs on my Maxima, wish it was possible to put the set of them in the Q. BTW, I've looked at everythinginfiniti.com and noticed the prices have dropped: the front struts now are $337.73 each, down from $450, and the rears are $158.60 each making the total $992.66. Not that bad for OEM adjustables!

I thought the increased harshness was not really acceptable on the roads (major highways) I test drove on. Standard seemed plenty firm, then at 48K miles.

Hmmm, well then the question is how many people would be serious about getting them at under $700/set, shipped to northern CA? (shipping from norcal to end user is additional, but shouldn't run any more than a max of like 30-40 to the east coast I believe.) Thing is, I'd need the full amount up front, and my next shipment of goods is leaving japan in about 1.5-2 weeks or so, so people would have to commit pretty quickly if they want to jump on these. hmmm, and I'll have my friend look around japan for the best place to source the struts.... but only if there's a demand I suppose.

Might as well check. Also remember, the switched OEM ones are more expensive.

I bet Kevin knows where to find some.

I always switch mine on real nice long smooth freeways.

One ton, I live in Half Moon Bay and I'm in 100% so there is no issue on the shipping side, I'm happy to go down the Sunnyvale to pick them up. I have the springs and need the shocks so let me know ASAP, but I'm in.

badq (and anyone else interested): just go ahead and give me an email at [email protected] KYBs might be interesting to get after all.. a friend just picked up a super clean Y33 also, so it's time to convince him to play with it a bit, too

I can feel for you [group buy plan] as we have trouble persuading people to spend ~~ $300 on 4 new Tokico Blues [parts cost] for 90-96Q every 4 years.

They faint when they hear ~~$400-$333 each for Q41 "t" fronts.........just like $950 each for Q45a or LS400 air suspension.
