I bought these shocks for my 89 240sx and i wanted to put coilovers on them. They said they would fit any set of coilovers but i wanted to see if anyone has these and which set of coilovers did they buy cause i seen a bunch on ebay for like 50 bucks and i wanted to make sure there gonna fit before i buy em

KYB GR-2's are a replacement non adjustable damper for the stock unit. A coilover is a strut that has been designed around a specific coil (that's why they're thinner and have more tightly wound springs) Any set of replacement springs will fit the GR-2 though, such as an Eibach pro kit, sportline, etc.

GR-2s are stock replacement. They will blow if you lower your car even a little bit. eBay coilover springs = crap. I have them and they blew my stock shocks right when I took my car for a test drive. My stock struts are still good even with the springs set to the lowest level. I'm currently in the process of going back to stock with the rear, but unfortunately all the auto parts store in my area are out of spring compressors. I have no other choice but to reuse the cheap springs. They are so short they don't even have to be compressed. I'm going to be setting them to the highest level, because I don't want my new shocks to blow. I want to be able to resell them as soon as I get my D2 coilovers.

If you're looking to lower your car, get a KYB AGX and Eibach Sportline combo, or any lowering springs will do as long as you have the AGX struts/shocks set. I'm not sure how well the cheaper springs will perform compared to the Sportline. If you want to really lower your car then get in on the D2 coilovers group buy. With a real coilover set, you'll be able to lower your car without worrying about blowing your dampers. They'll blow eventually, but when they blow depends on how stiff your spring rate is.

G-R2's just aren't durable enough. Get the Tokico blue shocks if you're looking for better shocks that'll last longer. That was the recommendation from a friend who went from Tokico blue to KYB G-R2 to JIC FLTA2's.

i just got some GR-2's last night. after reading this now, i feel a lil sick. would a GR-2 and sportline packege be good? there kind of expensive for me, so if theres another combo that would be good, let me know.

err gr2s and sportlines would not be good. for sportlines go for the AGX... or koins if you're willing to go through all that trouble.

I know someone who had the same setup. He blew his GR-2s after about a month.

man...I got tein ss and kyb gr-2 and all i gotta say is.....its not that bad as pple think!!! after I installed the shocks...my ride is stiffer and pretty good.. and I don't think their a stock replacements because KYB's stock replacements are Gas-Adjust so....I dont know why others shocks broke but mines are still goin strong all day long...

Bulletdrift, go ahead and install yours, but don't complain if your new shocks blow on you. Though, the struts in the front might never blow. I've been using ricer coilover springs (extremely weak) on my stock front struts with 166k+ miles on them.. It's the rear shocks that you should worry about. There's a reason why GR-2s are so cheap and that's because they're just stock replacements.

ive had mines for about hmm... almost about 8 months.. and so far for about three months straight i have about 200 pounds of safety sand in the trunk of car and 100 pounds behind the drivers and passenger seats ...and they still ride pretty nice and smooth...though im worried about the fronts because I blew some bushings installing them and so far haven't replaced them..

I've had mine for about 8 months also and my rears are almost blown... but only because the ****heads who switched the spring/strut assembles for me (damn top nut) scored the damn piston rod. My fronts, which turned out ok, are still as stiff as the day I put them on.

I have the same set up and I agree completly. Its nice ride, doesn't lower the car too much (good for city driving) Its an excellent combination for a daily driver:)

Nissan Motorsports lip. Discontinued afew years ago. I have one more, but I'm not gonna let it go easy! Retail is a little over $250, but you won't find this anywhere else... not even sure if I want to part with it yet :pface I'll make a seperate thread if I decide to sell it...

but back to the question, yes the teins are a bit soft. they're not racing springs. they just look better, and are stiffer than stock. in other words, my girlfriend still enjoys long trips in my car ;) lol

WTF is the deal here? Im running the GR-2/sportline setup on my autocross dedicated car, and havent had one problem. Ive had them for about a year! My car is thrashed on every sunday at speeds from 0-120 and Ive never seen anything wrong with the KYB's. Its one thing to say my KYB's blew, but if your driving over potholes, and beating the **** out of them, and strut will blow. I will agree, if your going to drift, coilovers (tein, cusco, etc.) But for a daily driver the GR-2's are fine
