I have a 1998,
Yes I thought that they would be MUCH easier to adjust with the knob facing towards the diff. so you could just reach AROUND the wheel rather than between it. The instructions never said anything and I can still not get a definite answer.
The position of the knob is not the only thing that changes when you rotate it. There is a wider end of the mounting hole of the strut to the car and is opposite the knob. This is where the problem lies because I have heard that IT should face the diff. which means the knob wouldn't.
One other thing, when I did the install on the rear, I forgot to include the very top part of the assembly, the copper-colored dome peice. I am unaware what purpose this serves and if it is a necessity. It just seems that it is not of structural need rather than a possible sound blocker. Would it be ok to drive around w/o it?
