I've done quite a bit of reading here and I've seen some general statements about AGX's being stiff, even at the softest setting.

My current plan is to get a set of Eibach Pro-kit springs and KYB AGX's (and boots) because I want to firm my suspension up a bit but I don't race and I have a family that I stuff into my S13 from time to time.

So... I'd like to know if someone can tell me in some sort of relative terms how adjustable the AGX's are. Right now, I have a stock suspension with 100k+ miles on it. I'm *hoping* with Pro-kit / AGX's at a softer setting that my ride quality will actually *improve* from what i have now (my suspension is pretty shot).

And of course, I have high hopes of what it will do for my handling when the family isn't in the car and I can change the settings for optimal "spirited driving" mode.

Any feedback from AGX owners is appreciated. Thanks.

I have AGX's and Sportlines but haven't had a good chance to test them on their softest. But I am pretty sure that any aftermarket shock will be an improvement. Pro-kits are not that "hard handling" type of a spring nore are the AGX's. I think that you WILL be satisfied and not think that it is any stiffer than your worn shocks. I do think that it would be a bit more of a tougher setup than a brand new 240sx suspension.

i have AGX w/ intrax springs. they're set at 2/5 now, which is about half way b/w the two extremes. and its pretty damn stiff. not unbearable, but stiff. luckily the agx's have great damping so it isnt at all bouncy.-Enzo

not to be such a newbie... but what does DAMPEN mean... too soft? or to bouncy? feels like your floating? or hop all over the place? cause i was bout to place an order for the sportlines and kyb agx's... thanks

While it's somewhat debatable, shocks don't really absorb "shocks". Springs do most of that, "shocks" are really dampers, what they do is dampen the rebound of the springs so that you don't bounce down the road for a mile after a bump. Before I get flamed, I realize that shocks are certainly a factor but books I've read on handling suggest that they aren't the biggest absorber of a bump.

Over dampened... I guess that would be dampers ("shocks") adjusted too stiff so that the springs aren't allowed to do their jobs

Lastly, I appreciate all input but it's not quite helpful to me to talk about AGX's stiffness without mentioning what they were set at. I have no doubt that, for example, set at the max settings that they can be quite stiff.

And more than anything, I'd appreciate it if someone could check out the softest settings for me. Thanks !

i recently had my agx/sportlines installed by my wonderful carnut friend of mine. but i digress

the setting i have my s13 at is 2 front, and 4 in the rear, when first installed i had it at 3 and 6. the ride is firm. but not necessarily jarring and i mean that on bad roads of course. i never have set the car to 1, and i am not really considering it yet.

most of my stock struts were blown, and the agx/eibachs made the car ride and handle extremely well! the tail end of the car didn't feel twitchy in tight corners, and such. i highly recommend the set up, it's a great combination and i'm looking forward to utlizing it in the upcoming autocross events. i just need better tires now to take the abuse better

i'll see if i can adjust them to 1 all around and i'll tell ya what happens. hehe
