Hey folks,

I'm looking for all season 245/40R19 tires for my new wheels. Tirerack.com gave me 3 options, one having pisspoor reviews so I nixxed it. The two I was left with were:

$200 Kumho Ecsta LX Platinumor$277 Michelin Pilot Sport A/S

Both are ZR speed rated and have decent reviews. I just wanted to get some insight if anyone here had any experience with either or knew anyone with any before I pulled the $800+ trigger...

You recommend the nankang NS-IIs?

EDIT: Upon inspection the nankangs nsIIs are summer tires. I'm looking for all seasons since we see snow around here and I'm way too lazy to switch wheels around.

you should think of the type of driving you do and they type of weather you typically drive in (ie: sun, snow, wet) ... then narrow your tire selection down. you can also look at the tread wear rating as the higher the number will be a harder tire = longer life

ive had 3 pairs of the kumho spts anf they worked great, however im going with the falken fk 452's with my 19's in the next week. i switched it up this time as they are a popular tire for the local cars and i found a wicked deal on them.

early kia/hyundai vehicles have forever ruined my opinions on the korean automotive market. The kumho tires may be wonderful... but there korean.. therefore i say no. dont blame me, blame kia.

Still undecided between the Kumhos and Michelins-- although I am leaning towards Kumhos because I can't imagine spending $277 a tire-- when I can spend $200 for about the same thing. (Yes, same speed rating, basically same reviews, etc.)

Can anyone else offer some insight?

kumhos are a decent tire. I ran them after a set of pirelli's on my Z28, straight line I couldnt tell much of a difference. In the wet and curves though, the Pirelli P Zero Rosso OWNED the kumhos... that said the pirellis were also 2x the cost of the kumhos lol. I was happy with the tire for the cost

ebay ftw 20% off max...

FYI i ran my nitto extreme 555s all winter long, and didnt lose traction once.... I have 17k miles on the tires, around 10k are after the eibach drop...

The camber is slightly off, but hasnt affected the tire wear one bit. Plenty of meat on these bad boys... i anticipate getting another 2 years out of them at this pace!

And i got em for 125 a pop as well...

Michelin makes the best tires for the most part...so if you're only between those two, I'd go michelin.

You may want to broaden your horizions though - there are some really great allseason high performace tires out there. The Goodyear Eagle F1 Allseasons are really great, as well as the Pirelli PZero Nero's. The BFGoodrich g-force super sport a/s are good too, but i've heard the tread runs quickly on those (but they are muccccccccccch cheaper).

marlin, thanks for the post but none of those tires are available in the 245/40/19 size I want. I believe Goodyear has All Seasons RS-A's but they got horrid, horrid reviews so I through those right out.

I'm going to order the Kuhmos once I find a cheap place to throw my new tires on.

Kumho Ecsta are excellent tires, and they were my second choice. I went with General Exclaim UHPs b/c they were rated higher in owner reviews and by MORE owners. They were also about $25.00 cheaper than the Kumho's, which were a bargain already. I've had them for a month now and love them. They stick to the road like glue. No tramlining, very resistant to hydroplaning, excellent ride and low noise. BTW_ higher treadwear than the Ecstas too, so they last longer. TireRack had them for $540 shipped with a $50.00 gift card!

my #1 choice would be "Goodyear Eagle F1 All Season" If its good enuff for a corvette its good enuff for me. But i dont see it in your size.

my #2 choice is "Michelin Pilot Sport A/S" and it is in your size.

Every thing i read those 2 are usely like #1 or #2. (this is from my memory of reading it could be wrong)

Kumho doesnt even register in my brain when compareing to those 2 tires.
