Looking for high-performance tire that isn't too expensive. Will be used for both track and street.

Is the Kumho Ecsta MX a good choice for the money, or am I missing out on a better option?

They are a really good tire for dry conditions, really sticky. In the rain however, they have the tendency to lose some grip. Obviously any tire will lose some grip in the rain, but compared to how sticky they are in the dry you have to drive differently in the rain (no-brainer lol). I say get em, they are great tires for the price.

It's been rated very well by tire-rack. It's not quite as good as the Azenis RT615, but for the price it's definitely a good summer tire.

I've had no experience with those exact ones, but i've always liked kumho tires. But here is another good suggestion Wanli tires, i bought a pair of wanli s-0188's for like $110 a piece. For an 18" tire its not to bad, plus these tires seem to be lasting for ever. Just my 2 cents

I have a set of them on my S14 and they work great, although I don't have anything else to compare them too.

One thing to be aware of is they are stiffer then normal tires, after they were mounted I noticed problems on this bumpy road I drove everyday. The car shuddered and bounced like crazy and the back wheels would slip half a foot or so driving in a straight line. Driving around another bumpy steady state curve at 30 mph the back would step out over a foot.

It was terrible for driver confidence and I ended up driving slower then on normal tires. About 3 months later they repaved that section and driving has been fine since then. Just be aware that sidewall stiffness is great for the track, not so great for driving on bad roads.

cdorhout is running them and he likes them. They are cheap and get good dry weather grip which are the two most important things when running an RB powered car

I have the mx 285's with lsd.... 4 yrs old and still with 80% traction.... non-daily driven car....

on 8 psi (~230 whp) in 1st gear i break the rear loose with ease. 2nd gear and on they hold just fine....on 15 psi (~340 whp) 1st and 2nd are worthless..... 3rd gear and on they grip fineon 21 psi (~410 whp) 1st and 2nd still worthless, mid 3rd gear i break the rear end loose, 4th and 5th gears grip fine...I just want something that will hold 21 psi in 2nd gear....

I personally would find another tire... they aren't horrible though.

I don't know how much hp you got, but the guy above me sounds about right, they won't do much.
