I noticed that my wiring harness for the ks has 2 posts on one end that clip into the lead for the ECU, but on the other end, it only has one metal clip for the 2 leads from the ks. One side has the metal clip that sits tight against the lead, and the other side has only an empty slot in the plastic cover where the metal clip should be. So I have one ks lead that's inserted into the harness, and another ks lead going nowhere. Is the harness faulty?

I think that for the circuit to be complete, both ks leads should clip into the harness. It looks like the circuit dies at the point where the metal clip should be. Is that why I can't get a signal from my ks?

No, that's normal. I believe the circuit is completed through the chassis ground.

Thanks. I was kind of hoping it was a bad harness, and that my troubles would be over with another one. However, it still haunts me as to why I can't get the new ks and harness to work properly.

Could a grounding issue be at the root of my trouble? I noticed that when I did the ohm test, I couldn't get a good reading from the ks until it was held flush against the block.

I have faith. At some point, I will move thing around until it finally works. Are my readouts correct? 557 ks and 558 harness.
