i got my knock sensor replaced, but now my car idles at 4k rpm n shakes, if i hit the gas enough to go past 6k it stops rattling. is it possible this is caused by the ks being tightened too tight or too loose? or perhaps something else was left loose etc?

Are you sure that your car is idling at 4K rpm. Because 4K and 6k means 4,000 and 6,000 if I am not mistaking. When you took you intake system off to replace the knock sensor, and then replaced it back. Check and see if you if any of the vacuum hoses off or if you have a crack or rip in any of them. I am sure the the bolt if tight enough and not too big of a problem. As long as you did not put all your might into it and also if you did not just leave it in there finger tight you should be good on that part. I am pretty sure that you many have a vacuum hose off and leaking.

Give us a little bit more details such mileage on the car and the a maintenance records.

it sounds like you mean 400 and 600...not 4k/6k.

sounds like a loose vacuum hose...i'm with Graberhieny

yeah u guys are right i meant 400/600. i bought the car w.98k miles on it and replaced the oil and filters, ect sensor, apart from that idk how it was before. i had a local mechanic change the ks since it was a hassle for me, but i did double check all the hoses n connections around the throttle/intake area and they all look fine. except for one hose that sticks out from the engine but im pretty sure its a breather hose? i took pictures that i will post once i am home tonight.

i fixed the idle problem though, i read somewhere in the forum about adjusting a screw to changed the idle so i looked for it and on my first attempt i found it, i loosened it to idle at 900 and now it all works fine. is it possible the mechanic tightened it to make me come back or can it be anything else that will come back to bite me in the *** eventually

so heres the hose i was refering to, heresthe screw i loosed to get the idle to raise up to 900, which btw only rises immediately after ignition when the engines warm, otherwise it goes to 400 and right away jumps to 900

btw, is there any tool i could use to actually measure how much torque was used to tighten to bold on the ks, i still believe it might have something to do with it

you'll need a torque wrench. i don't know what the torque should be on the bolt but you can probably find it in any repair manual. i've heard that people had idle problems if it was under/over torqued. i've also heard it's a pretty sure way to damage the ks.

I would think you would need to torque up the knock sensor bolt

It looks look you adjusted the correct screw on the Idle Air ControlValve. You are also supposed to have some kind of cam mark in linewith the throttle as well but if it runs fine I would leave it alone.

Whoops I dont think you need the torque wrench for the Knock sensorunless Haynes or the FSM say so. Doesnt it just hang on a bracketas a electrical connector?

i read somewhere it was 15-20 torque, if the idle was dropped does anyone kno if the bolt needs to be loosened or tightened? and how much are the torque wrenches

about $20 and it'll be useful in the future because every bolt on a car has a specific torque. the ks bolt is pretty picky from what i hear so you might wanna tighten it right.

since the ks bolt isn't easy to acces get yourself a long extension and a wabble conector.
