i'm thinking about bypassing my ks. since the correct signal resistance is 550-620 (or so) ohm's could i cut the wires on the sensor and put a 600ohm resistor in place? i wonder if that would cheat the ecu into thinking that there's never any knocking. any input appreciated.

Just use premium fuel and you will no longer have any issues.

I'm sure you could bypass it but why would you? The knock sensors function is to work with the ECU to avoid knocking or pinging so it's a preferred sensor on the engine.

I bypassed mine but i forgot what size resistor i used. It was for other reasons.

i want to do a bypass because i want steady performance without ups and downs. the car is 13 years old with between 150-200k miles - broken odo when i bought it - so the ks might hear something from time to time and take a few valuable ponies away from me and i don't need it to detect any kind of pings etc...that's what i got ears for

allensteiner, have you noticed some of the time your car will feel way faster than yesterday and in five minutes that power is gone? my car has these random shots of power and im thinking could be the same thing? what do you think?

i know it the ks in my case and that's why i want to get rid of it. especially that i run premium gas only. and if there's knocking...let it be, if the motor blows i'll have a reason to put the 3.5 in instead

550,000 not 550 ohms.

When the circuitry no longer HEARS the background noise from sensor it self protects and switches to regular fuel map equations. This reduces ignition advance and reduces power output and increases fuel consumption a little at cruise.

i searched and found that there's a few that bypassed the ks with a 470k ohm resistor...why lower than reg output? supposedly pushes the timing forward to the max for max power/mpg gain but idk about that so if anyone knows - chip in. i'm back to searching.

kzoosho, did you use it as a temp thing or still bypassing?

Dude,

Change the KS, $65 on-line. It's tricky, you need patience and the right tools. Takes about an hour. I did mine with help from this web-site.

Dude...i don't want to replace mine with a new one because the stock one is fine. if you read the whole thing you'd know that i'm looking to bypass it to have a steady signal to the ecu = steady power. it's a cheat not a cheap fix. kinda like the ebay "chips" but one that works.

To be honest mine was fine but i figure i would just listen to it. Im hooking it back up this week when i install emanage so i can tune. But before i had an safcIi so i couldnt touch time. Now i can .

so i got a radioshack digital multimeter and 470k ohm resistors, before putting the resistor in the plug the voltage was at almost 5v. after i put the resistor in it dropped by half but i can't get a ohm readout

i guess i'll need to drive the car with and without my "chip" and see if there's a diference because there was none in how the engine idled.

btw i have a serious knock - my idler pulley bracket vibrates and hits the water pump cover bolt and that's why i'm doing a bypass.

Do you run premium? And do you think with the car on max output it will need premeim to not knock? anyway. let me know how it goes and if you see better performance with the resistor!

premium only...i'm still waiting on my ebay ddl cable and software - been 2 weeks already - and maybe when i get my laptop hooked up i'll know some more on the bypass affecting the parameters. i'll keep posting on my finds.

Im looking to do this now as well. did you ever figure it out? and how has it worked?

it works fine as long as you use premium fuel and your engine doesn't knock. it's a 470k ohm resistor - cheap from radio shack.

I always run premium. I was down on your side of the border a few weeks ago and it was only $55 to fill my car with premium. up here im lucky if its below $80.

But how did you do it? just snip the wires then loop them together? and did you get any noitceable performance increases?

well, i don't feel any gains but my timing is advanced i did it mainly because i thought i might've had a bad ks and you just plug it in the harnes connector. i'll take a pic today. $2.59/gal of premium lately !!!
