The list of advantage of my local dealer's oil change includes something called "krex graphite engine lubricant". Is this okay for my I30 or should I run the other direction?

Skip it.

Never seen any data that novelty oil additives are worth a damn.

It's part of the oil change, not an extra. They just tout it in their ad. I'm just more concerned that it may be harmful.

My Dad had a '78 Buick V6 that he used Arco Graphite in (still have a can ) years later I rebuilt it at about 150K and it was full of sludge. I can't really say whether it would have gone longer without it.That engine has looser tolerences than your nice nissan engine. A friend of mine (who has a Ph.D. in petrochemistry) said it's hard to keep the graphite in suspension since the detergent suspends smaller particles easier once smaller dirt starts to enter the picture,-creating sludge.

Forget it. It won't help anything.

Alright in that case I will specifically tell them not to put in this stuff.
