Is anyone using this? I am aware that copper is like 3x heavier than aluminum, but I am also under the impression that copper and aluminum transfer heat just as well. Reason I am asking is, my crappy plastic endtank on my stocker developed a hairline crack and I want to replace it. Plus, I want something a little beefier than the factory paper-thin model.

http://www.hopupracing.com has the S13 Koyo Copper double row radiator for $163 shipped.

i am under the understanding that copper has better heat transfer than aluminim, that is why copper is preffered for heatsinks in computers

I found out the stock radiator core is only 0.625" thick whereas the koyo copper is 1.25" thick. Hmm...I think I might order one of these next week. Hopefully the JB Weld will hold it for a few more days

Where do you see that they are copper? On the site, it says that they are aluminum. If they have aluminum rads for $183 for the CA, I am selling some blood or something NOW!!!

theres the numbers for heat transfer rateType k (W/m·K)

aluminum 237

copper 401

brass 120

gold 317

silver 429

iron 80.2

steel, plain 45 - 65

steel, stainless 14

so you can see if anyone is rich enough to make a pure silver radiator thatll be godly but for cost reasons copper is one of the best materials for heat transfer. aluminum is used because it doesn't corrode as fast as copper

but for the price of the koyo copper radiator if its the same fin design/size as the aluminum go for it. it's so cheap not even 200. look at the difference 237 vs 401 heat transfer rate... thats nearly double...

im going to be getting a copper radiator also but its going to be a beefy unit.

wait...so am i hearing that the $163 copper koyo radiator is better than the 300+ aluminum ones, and is a better at cooling the engine?

So why does everyone get the aluminum ones if the copper is better at cooling? I'm lost...

I think that the copper ones are a newer addition to our 240sx world. In the past, to my knowledge, only the aluminum series was available.

I think the only main concern here is the long term use of it. As stated above, the aluminum series probably wouldn't corrode as quick as the copper would. the is the only side affect I see here. Other than that, I will be jumping on this right after my unused vacation time cashes out in two weeks.....

Here is another website that has them for $110.00. HOWEVER, it is saying for the model it fits "SILVIA S14 SR20DET". Any input into this anyone??? It has the same part number listed for it as HopUp does. Go figure.

110 bucks. if its the real deal f it. custom brackets are pretty easy to make.

i am only comparing copper vs aluminum. im not sure about the construction of their aluminum line vs their copper so someone would have to compare that to confirm.

but yashio's radiators are copper and i read theyre supplied by koyo. and its godly

well brass look at the heat transfer rate numbers. 120 is not that high even vs aluminum.

anyone going nuts with cooling should go vmount copper radiator+silicone hoses with dual oil coolers.

copper radiators from koyo have been available for quite a while for our cars.

Advantages:Better cooling than most aluminum.Cost.Resistance to bending fins.

Disadvantages:Corrosion, (i'm guessing long term, since these should be coated.Weight (which would be at the front).

Anyway, I think aluminum ends up being more malleable than copper, so more fins/cores get you more surface area and comparable cooling power to copper.

Coating the outside I assume?

If you have a CA/KA the S14 SR one won't work right. The inlet/outlet are on the wrong side.

Here is a great paper I found on the subject:http://www.copper.org/applicat...tages

And a quick question: My current car was in a fender bender b4 I bought it, and the radiator does not have plastic endtanks. Could I have some sort of non-OEM rad. in there?

so basically what it says is. with the same performance as aluminum, it is also lighter in weight. it lasts 10 years good enough for me, the reason why it's cheaper to buy is because the material copper is not as valuable. good stuff

so just to make sure i have this right, the 110 copper koyo is better in every aspect except for weight, and corrosion wich wont happen for 10 years?

But what I am still not clear about is what application it is for. Hopup doesn't say whether it is for the SR20 setup or the KA setup. However, the Radiator store says it is for the S14 Silvia. Anyone have any info on this yet????
