Ok I'm new in here. But I have been lurking for months now. Quietly ...stealing priceless information from you guys. Its been helpful though. So thanks... Right now I'm in the engine shopping stage.

With that comes a question. Do you guys know whats the difference between a Kouki and Zenki S14 engine? Besides the ECU.

23710-69F00 - S14 - SR20DET - M/T - 10/93~02/9523710-69F01 - S14 - SR20DET - M/T - 02/95~06/9623710-80F00 - S14 - SR20DET - M/T - 06/96~12/9823710-0A547 - S14 - SR20DET - M/T - 09/97~12/98

I have searched but can't find a clue. Forward appreciation, of course...

The engines themself are the same. There is no OBD 1/2 in Japan so none of that crap. The main difference is the ECU and harness as well as some minor stuff like a different alternator and things like different gauge cluster.

The late 1998 model K's Autech MF-T is a very rare model with some different parts, but no power adders.

Well, at least for USDM (while this isn't a motor item), the 97-98 have the crankshaft position sensor, while I do not believe that the Zenki's do.

I could be totally wrong on this, if someone knows otherwise, feel free to correct me.

I believe the Zenki's have a EGR system where as the Kouki's does not, I know because i have a Kouki SR20 and the manual that I found on the Zenki SR20 it has the EGR system.

No S14 SR had an EGR. All S14 SR20DET's came with CPS's/CAS's.

That's what I thought, but wonder why the FSM showed the EGR system... weird.

Because the FSM is for the Australian model. The Aussie model requires EGR. The Japanese models weren't required to have it.

Can we then hook up KA's EGR and emission stuff to the SR20? Then make the KA ECU work for the Emission Test. Mine is a 1998 OBD2. They didn't use the sniffer, just an OBD2 plug.

No.

You will never pass a state inspection with an SR legally. Get used to it.

You need to find someone to pass the car through, spot them $50 or something for a sticker.

Lol, I thought I can only do this in Asia. Yeah..... I always notice that there is always "brother" by the emission test place. The last one, we even talked about swapping the SR20 and stuff (he got RSX). He said to keep the ECU next year. For whatever that means.

My last car wasn't OBD2 (3KGT and 1G DSM), so they only have to pass the sniffer. They were also taken care of by the "brothers". Nice!

I guess my point is to figure out how this EGR thingy works. I probably need to make an "engine model" to simulate the KA and keep the ECU. So when the emission test guy plug it in, it will look like the KA is still in there. Any input from you guys is appreciated. I do chip design for a living, but I have little knowledge about car.
