apexi makes a rev speed meter, but it hooks to your speed sensor. short answer, you need a speed sensor. otherwise, my advice is to lick your finger, open the window, and put your hand outside. depending on how cold your finger gets is directly related to your speed. seconds it takes you finger to get cold X temperature outside/how much you spent on lunch= your speed.

you mean your speedometer isnt workin? has it been like this since the swap? because you did have a sohc engine and when you swap in the sr the cluster no longer works..you have to swap in a dohc cluster for it all to work

tach shouldnt you need a DOHC or SR Speed seonsor to make the tach work, unless you put the SOHC tach in there.

ANd a failed speed sensor will make your tack, odomoeter, nad spedometer not work

well if i dont need a doch speed sensor then, what should i do?? could it be something in the transmission that could cause this?? i have an extra transmission, but the person who sold me this set-up said that the transmission has fixed gears. + its a pain in that *** to install the transmission with the motor on.

WTF Explain to me how a speed sensor, which measures rotations of the rear wheels, helps the tach work. The tach gets its signal usually from the spark plug at the first cylinder.

The 1989-1990 240SX w/ KA24E, 1991-1994 240SX w/ KA24DE, 1991-1995 180SX w/ SR20DET, and 1991-1994 S13 Silvia w/ SR20DET all use the exact same speed sensor.

You need a DOHC tach to read the tach signal from an SR or KA24DE.

I would start by tracking the speedometer circuit. One time my speedo stopped working, I looked under the hood and noticed the speedo wire off the transmission simply fell out of the connector. Track the circuit, start at the speed sensor, follow it to the connectors below the battery, from there it goes around the front on the engine bay to the drivers side, into the dash, and up into the gauge cluster. The wire colors are yellow with black stripe and yellow with a blue stripe next to the speed sensor through to the cluster.

You really expect me to explain your electrical gremlins? I bet you just disconnected the cluster or something stupid and didnt realize it.

I have taken apart the entire S13 240SX wiring harness for the whole car, I know how the system works. And those two systems have nothing to do with each other, except that the signals both end up at the gauge cluster and ECU via different circuits.

thanks for all the info. so can there be anything possibly wrong wiht the transmission to do this?? my car was recently hit and is now totaled. No biggy though, it was only the driver side no engine damage what so ever. so im buying another 240 and doing the swap over. ill double check the wires then. thanks for all the info.
