im looking at an 86 200sx, 5speed, ca18et. i was told it has a good engine, but needs a turbo and an ecu. it is fairly far away from my home, so i am thinking about getting ahold of some used parts and installing them where it sits now, so i can drive it home. is this something i could bolt on myself? im not familiar with turbos or an ecu, so i would try to get ahold of some kind of directions and then pay close attention to how i take it apart.

to me a turbo install, that is taking one turbo off and replacing it with the same turbo only newer, would be a bolt off, bolt on job. and if the ecu plugs in, it should not be hard at all unless the parts are not easy to get to.

is anyone familiar with the s12 ca18et engine, or would know anything about an install like this? thanks for any help

not only do you need a turbo and ecu, but you will need a good intercooler and a blow off valve. The engine won't run good without. If you want the manual for the ca18det, let me know. I've got it kicking around somewhere.

Well, you're going to have to find the stock T2 if you don't want to have to buy and/or make parts when you arrive at this location. If the wiring harness is good, maybe you can just pick up an ECU on ebay or something. Good luck man.

yeah im hoping to pick up a used turbo from someone selling one, either parting out their car or because they upgraded. the car has a rebuilt engine, so i assume everything works ok, ive talked to the seller and he said these are the only two parts that need replacing. so hopefully it is as simple as it sounds

How ballsy are you, because you could just find the ecu for the trip back, get an S-AFC and just lean out the fuel for the purpose of driving back non-turbo... just a thought, an exhaust shop could make a pipe to fit it.

yeah i actually signed up for club s12 and asked the same question, i have a much better idea of what i have to do for the installs now. a turbo swap is nothing i would want to do away from my garage or in a rush, so for practical reasons im just going to trailer it back.

i would be very interested in these parts, and possibly a few others for spare, my email is [email protected], you can let me know when they will be available if you want. thanks
