Hey guys, I want to put these wheels on my car but they really need to be fixed up first. There arnt any bends in the rim sections, but as you can see, one pair is painted and the other pair needs a bit of shining. What I really want to to is send them to a reputable shop that has lots of experience is this sort of area. I would like to have all paint and clearcoat stripped off, have the rims polished and get the center sections color anodized. Anyone have some experience or hear of someplace good?

Wheel with tire on it is of unknown manufacture, 16x8, black painted rims are made by Stern, also 16x8.

This is gonna be a shot in the dark, but you can try calling up Sports Car Tire in Wilmington,DE (302) 571-8473. They repair wheels and they have a powdercoating service besides selling tires and such. Some guy in the local 240sx group we have had his Kei Office wheels repaired there and they did a good job.

(gonna be at the Boeing Philly SCCA autox next weekend! too far for you i guess :D)

I was actually thinking about coming out with my moms 5-speed ford focus

sxcoupe: I was thinking about doing it myself, but I dont know how I'm supposed to get the paint off these wheels. Maybe I can take them to a local shop to get sandblasted or something...

yeah, thats something id def be doing myself. especially since you have a mismatched set of wheels. why spend alot of money which if you took it to a shop theyre gonna charge out the azz for any kinda work. to strip them, thats easy as spraying a can and watching the paint peel right off within a few minutes. they make paint stripper in an aerosol can. its like aircraft stripper, you know the shlt that burns your skin like nothing youve ever encountered before. you can use the jelly in the big tin and spread it on with a brush, or use an aerorol can. i prefer the aerosol can as its alot cleaner. just make sure youre not around anything else that you want to be painting. a good 400 grit scuff, a few coats of primer, then some more 400 grit scuffing and youll be good for paint. polishing is easy too. if you want i can tell you all about that as well.

I've done it a couple times and knowing the torque specs and procedure is extremely important.

I do wheel refinishing at the shop I work at. But we're located in Annapolis, Maryland. If you ship them here, I'll do it as a side job. And you could pay me with some of the parts you're selling. Just a thought. Kinda far-fetched. But oh well. Worth a try.

The aerosol paint remover is working pretty well. It gets very messy removing the paint (flakes!) but they look alot better even just raw aluminum than with black paint. I still havent decided what color im going to paint the centers. I might do bronze or gold. Still have a little bit more paint to strip first though.
