Hi, all.

I have the shocks and covers I purchased from Everything Infiniti for my Y34 2003 M45, but cannot get the dealer to reduce their labor charge below $1200! That is simply way too high, IMHO. I have a place ask $480, but that was somebody who has not really worked on Infiniti models ... so I am not sure if they would know exactly what needs to be done or the Y34. The rear is apparently easy, but the front is not so simple, from what I understand.

So ... anyone recommend a good place to get my shocks changed in the S.F. Bay Area? Ideally somebody with Infiniti experience?

I have one recommendation so far, but looking for alternatives, just in case this first one is busy (need to call them tomorrow) or too pricey.

Assuming you mean the fronts, I dunno. :gotme That is the excuse that the dealer said caused the quotation to be double for the front shocks compared to the rears. Of the 1200 they wanted, 800 was for the fronts ... :ohno:

According to the service manager, the rears do not need for the springs to be removed? I didn't think this was correct, but I have not looked at the Service Manual yet ... will do so soon. I can tell that the new rears look like simple shocks, but the fronts are far larger - with some place where the sprints apparently "rest" on.

Of course, I am a total novice when it comes to these things, so I'd rather not DIY them. :)

Hey Szh, I had my 70yr old neighbor install my Tien S. tech springs for 100 bucks and I will have him install KYB shocks when they arrive next week.
I don't think he has any Infiniti experience, this is probably the first M he worked on lol. If my 70yr old neighbor can do it, I'm sure any experience mechanic can do it.
And yes the rear do not have the springs on the shock like the fronts.

You can also try Z car garage in San Jose, specialize in Nissan & Infiniti

http://www.zcargarage.com

Or you can try Synergy Auto Works San Jose, a buddy's shop, they got some fast cars, one of their hatchback runs 9.3, I believe it's SVP.

Well, I am trying to avoid spending that much! :gapteeth:

I have a place (replaced my wife's Acura shocks) that says they will do all four on my car for $480, but they have never worked on Infiniti's.

OTOH, based on what you all are saying, it sounds like the job is not beyond the skill set of a person who has worked on other suspensions. So maybe they can do this work. :)

Yeah, suspension isn't really THAT complicated. They should be able to look at it and determine what needs to be done in order to remove/replace the dampers.
