Alright so my engine started knocking(It could be a rod but I'm really hoping it's not) but from what everyone's singled it out to....it could be on the valve train and they need adjusted...how would I do this? here's the other answers I've received and I'll detail what it's doing.

-rod knock-valves aren't adjusted-carbon piece on top of piston(have cleaner in the car right now for this)-thrown bearing

Alright so when the car is sitting, and I rev it up to about 2k+ it'll start knocking....or it'll do this when i'm driving. I took it on the highway but it won't knock during acceleration/letting off the pedal...but will when I keep the RPM's at a steady number. I'm really really hoping it's not a rod or bearing but need anyone's answer to the problem or if more information is needed to check it just ask. I can't really hook up a scan tool to it right now because my exhaust manifold is cracked and the O2 sensor already has the check engine light on for that. Any help is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks

Reset your ECU because the code your throwing might be Amplifing your knock problem. I would think that a thrown Rod or Spun Bearing would make it self known at any RPM so I hope its not that. Change your Oil and see if there is any Particles in there. You also might want to inspect inside the Oil Filter. Are you sure you're not running any other codes, with a bad o2 sensor your ECU could be trying to adjust for conditions that don't exist try replacing that soon.

sounds like a rod nock to me. I had the same thing happen to my 91 ka24de. When you let it sit for a while and start it up is it realy bad. my ka would be quiet then at like 2200 rpm's it would start nocking. Ka's love to through rod bearings.

well rod bearings sound like a loud tick.... there was one guy who had an acutal sound file on here and it was a bad rod bearing sound... I can't find it right now... but the title was something like... "what is this sound?"

knocking is definitely the scariest sound you can hear. i encountered mine through carelessness - checked everything but the oil for one month - but in a sappy way it's easing my pain knowing that other people have gone through this too.. thank you guys!

emagdnim, i hope it's not as serious as a thrown rod bearing in your case though

yeah, if it sets you at ease at all i'm gonna say timing chain, but thats only cuz i havent heard the sound and there is no reason to freak out just yet

rod knock is quite nasty, a power loss will be noticable, and it should be audible always, idle, on throttle, off throttle, all day long. i don't wanna say rod knock, i wanna say spun rod bearing. Somehow what youre looking for could be piston slap from excessive skirt clearance or something, that almost makes sense for your situation, but because this isn't a typical KA problem its honestly just a guess.

KA's usually spin the 3rd rod bearing, i know mine did, we almsot need more information to help you though

Ok we think we narrowed it down. Either it's the piston skirt is broken...or the pin that holds the connecting rod is out. We took out the #2 spark plug wire and it didn't make the noise. As far as everything else goes...I don't know how to reset the ECU(just unplug the battery?) I did change the oil and checked the filter, and there was some carbon/some metal in it(not much metal) so I'll just have to drive it easy for now and hope it doesn't give fully out...As long as it lasts me I already have plans to rebuild a full KA that'll hold everything I throw at it. Want it to be able to hold large amounts of boost and maybe later on the bottle haha...but yea, I think the motor is dead now, Thanks for all the help.

well ... resetting the ecu is kinda easy... well... after you check the codes... put the screw back to it's original position.... then turn ignition off.... next... go to the ecu and turn the screw like you were going to check codes... leave it turned ,then go back and turn the ignition on... once you have done that... go back to the ecu and turn the knob back to the starting position... now... try to check codes again and they should be gone... that's the way I do it if I remember correctly. I hope it's not too confusing. That clears the codes. I am not sure if it's the same thing as restarting it or not. g/l.

can't listen...I'm on dial up and it takes too long to load. This new one I'm getting is"guaranteed" to run and it's warrantied for 45 days so hopefully no worries on it. Gonna try to get it done this weekend. Will post pics if wanted?

This is the same problem with my car... and I was determined to resurrect it due to it being my first car and I've been though alot with it. It would be reassuring to figure out what exactly it was, if its a skirt or the pin that is fixable and that would be lovely. I can afford that easily and get my transportation back... otherwise ill be pulling some crazy plans that will put me in debt in order to get everything back in order.

Did you ever figure it out or get to work on it?

Oh yeah and hey everybody, good to finally have joined up.
