so i bought a 1995 q45 about 2 months ago, with 124k miles and in supposedly "excellent" condition. I didnt notice anything major wrong with car, runs great just the brakes needed to be replaced. Anyway, after driving for a couple of weeks I begin to notice a bit of a knocking sound when i would brake, then i kinda started noticing it when i accelerate. (Coming from the front left wheel area) So i figured it was due to the brakes. I replaced the brakes myself and the knocking is still there. NOW when the car is in park, everytime i tap on the brake the shifter clicks (cant be too serious) but just wondering what that is??? ANYWAY back to the knocking sound.....2 months later i still have not fixed the knocking sound its a little louder and happens all the time, when i turn, when i brake, when i accelerate, WHEN I DRIVE basically....Also, on all 4 shocks there are these rubber things on the inside of the shocks that are all cracked and broken? does anyone know how much this will cost to replace??? ALSO, there is another boot by the axle?? not sure what it goes too but it is also craked and broken??? ANY SUGGESTIONS??? PLEASE HELP!!!???

Sounds like a trip to a local Infiniti dealer or trusted independant shop is in order to put car on a lift and give it a inspection of everything- probably time for complete suspension overhaul.

Welcome to NICO. At 125k miles on your Q every rubber bushing on your suspension is ready for replacement, your struts and bump stops are flat if they're original, and the bushings in the upper links and lower tension rods are worn.

How's your tires wearing. Wear on the outside edge is worn out tension arms ($100 ea), wear on the inside edge is worn out upper links ($100 ea). Are your struts blue in color ($120 ea with bushings and bump stops)? If they're not blue (black?) chances are they're original and need replacing. The front sway bar bushings ($40) will be flat also. Prices are estimates but you can see it's not going to be cheap to rehab the suspension. When you're done though you'll think you're riding on a cloud.

Do some searching here on NICO to get a better idea of the replaceable parts on your suspension. You'll quickly see how easy it is to spend $3000 a year to keep your Q running well. Enjoy.

You can replace tension rod bushings and upper links.

But who knows what else is wrong?

No, not really. Do you see a lot of Q45 running a round?

Call the crew at IoS today and take advantage of their additional 10% off sale. That's 35% off suggested dealer list, and most dealers mark up over that. Tell them you are from NICO.

That is the shift interlock. That is what prevents you from putting the gear selector in gear without first putting your foot on the brake. What you are hearing is probably a solenoid used to control it and it's normal.

As for the rest of your issues, I think the others have hit the nail on the head. You've most likely got some worn out bushings and/or shocks that are causing the knocking noise. And that too is pretty normal wear on a 13 year old car. If you are seeing tire wear it can (and probably is) and indication of a misadjusted alignment angle. Look for and replace the worn out bushings first then have it aligned.

Those who have trouble reading or navigating a website always have the option of picking up the telephone and calling.........

As far as I know your not retarded, Maxnix just misspelled it.

Here is the correct link: //www.infinitipartsusa.com/

And for the shift lock solenoid noise you can always remove the black shifter cover and grease it up.
