Hi,
I bought a new 2010 nissan versa, couple weeks ago. it got less than 100 miles on it, i started noticing knocking or some noise on passenger side of the engine. any ideas on what this might be. It happens only when i start the engine and drive may be 200 feet or so, the noise is only for litlte bit and it goes away. it does not happen again until i start the engine and drive again. any ideas, please help.

thank you

If your car has ABS it does a self check the first time you get to 19 MPH (30 KM/H) after starting. It sounds like a little hammer tapping on the firewall in front of the passengers feet for about 5 taps. I noticed it when I first got my 2009 Versa last year. Just slowly accelerate and see if the noise comes at 19 MPH; if it does it is the self calibration of the ABS.

thanks for the response.

the knocking or tapping comes as you said around 19 to 25 mph, but it goes away after that. My car came with the ABS. Is this something that i need to worry about.
Did you do anything to fix it.

It means the ABS is doing a self-check to make sure everything is working properly. It's normal. Nothing to worry about.
