it's a s14 sr swapped in a couple months back, and i've put about 200 some miles on it. i checked my oil and its fine, i've been using 93 octane, anything else i can do? im going to pull the coilpacks one by one and see which cylandar it is, if its a knock at all. It sounds like... a click click click or a pen or spoon tapping cement. its not very loud most of the time... its really really loud when i turn it on, and it idles at 2 rpms to warm up. thats really the only time its loud, but if i rev it up a little bit the sound goes away. any ideas? could this clicking be caused by bad timing? if so wut do i do to get the correct timing?

incorrect timing does not cause a clicking or tapping...perhaps your turbo is shot..lots of shaft play..i would check that out first and foremost

i dont have any tools or anything to take the turbo out with right now... but a couple hundred miles back when the motor was put in, there was almost no shaft play, just a TINY TINY TINY bit of in and out. the clicking sounds like its coming from the block and not the turbo though.

and the turbo spools perfectly, i reach full 10 psi before 3 rpms, at around 2.7ish, if the turbo is shot, would it spool like that? or spool at all?

you only need to take the intake pipe off of the turbo to check it..but if you dont hear it coming from there then thats probably not it..what i would do is check the ecu out for codes..do you know how to do that? if not just ask and we'll tell

you have to turn the key to the on position and then you will see the l.e.d. on the back of your ecu light up..and next to that l.e.d. there is a tiny screw..turn it fully clockwise and hold it for 2 seconds then turn it all the way back and you will get a series of flashes..2 sets of flashes..the first is slow and the second is fast..say it flashes 3 times slow then 4 times fast..thats a code 34..you'll have to search on here for the codes though

before i go and do that, i'll change the oil to mobil one synthetic, i have some 10w-40 sitting in my room. the shopt aht did the swap said they put regular valvolinine in it, not synthetic so i think its causing problems with the tensioner on the chain which might explain the clicking sound... i'll seafoam it too and see if that helps. i'll report back with that, and if it doesnt help then i'll go to the ecu. thanks for the responses

clicking is still there after an oil change. i still haven't taken off the guide for the chain. what are the specs for the s14 sr valve cover? i tried looking for them but no luck... and could it be my injectors
