Try to isolate if its the wheel or under the wheel fender

You might get underneath it and see if the strut is loose by shakingit. Check other front end parts by shaking too.

After driving the car, touch the wheel bearing area to see if it isreally hot

if its knocking noise when you only hit a bump or something its going to be a suspension issue. I would guess you shock absorber is shot. when mine went out I got a knocking from the front left wheel. just whenever I hit a bump or something. it didnt have to a large bump. even just little ones made it knock.

That really depends on what absorber you go with. Do you have some basic mechanical skills? you can change it out yourself on a saturday afternoon to save some money. And I dont think you just want to replace the one either. you should do both fronts at the same time.

the reason I say do both at the same time is becasue if you get a cheap shock then it might not perform as well as the one on the other side. same thing with a expensice shock. its going to be stiffer and handle differently than the other shock. its like having a big beefy winter tire mounted on a 14" rim on one side then on the other side having a 18" rim with a high performance tire. they just wont mix well.

Yeah. just do some research on it and when your talking to the guy at the service counter use specific terms. If you sound like you know what your talking about then they wont try and screw with you. If you go in and you sound like a dumb blonde they will try and get as much from you as they can. that is if your dealership is like that!

I have a 4th gen maxima and dont know much about the 6th gens but here is the FSM for your front suspension. Good luck!!
